Help boosting this circuits power?

So this instructable boosts 16v AC to 100v DC, and apparently each stage doubles the power. My question is, to get it to 400v DC, do I just need to have 9 stages?

Out of curiosity, why do you need 400v DC? You could possibly use a transformer for that purpose since you probably won’t find any (cheap) capacitors with a 400v tolerance.

@Vortico I made a capacitor bank with 30 330v capacitors, for a coilgun project. I got a box of 145 used disposable cameras and took them apart, for free!
