Is it legal to use HandBrake?
HandBrake is an application that allows you to rip DVDs if you don’t know what it is.

No it goes against the copyright law or something. Its that thing you see at the beginning of the DVDs saying FBI WARNING and has all those words you don’t read.
Handbrake is legal. What you do with it can infringe on copyright, but to burn a DVD about your daughter’s first step using handbrake, that is 100% legal. It is your intellectual property.
the dmca allows you to create back ups of your property. handbrake is legal in the usa.
Hmmm handbrake…........Thanx Theo, had no clue. I know from experience it is a bad idea to use a front handbrake on a motorcycle on a loose surface. But I guess that is a different kind on handbrake.
The application is perfectly legal. What you do with it, might not be though.
Just like how having a butcher knife is legal, but not stabbing someone with it.
This is what I’m doing:
I’m transferring my DVDs onto my computer and putting them on my iPod. I will only be using the movies for personal use and I won’t make any physical copies or sell anything. I also own the DVDs and did not illegally download them or rent them.
It SHOULD be legal, as it falls in what is considered fair use.
But the DMCA kind of made the whole thing a clusterf*ck.
As long as you keep shut about it, I don’t see how it’d be a problem.
Theorhetically, of course. Nobody is actually suggesting circumventing DMCA laws here. >.>
Well, I use it the same way Theothekid does and some times I copy movies for my friends(not hard copys just so they have them on there iPods too) that I have, AND I honestly don’t care if its legal or not. Im not selling the movies I paid for them in the first place, and I don’t think my friends would have bothered to go and buy those movies if I hadn’t made them a copy.
