Did the pregnancy run smoothly and was the baby born normal?

I don’t know anyone off the top of my head, but my sister, who is 38 years old, has been on antidepressants for close to 10 years. She’s newly married and trying to get pregnant, and her doctor, when she asked if she’d need to go off her meds or reduce her dosage, said there was no need. He’s a pharmacologist as well as a GP, so he’s got a special knowledge of medications.

It might depend on which antidepressant the mother/mother-to-be is on; I’m not sure.

I was on anti-depressants throughout my second pregnancy. In the beginning I was on 10 mg Lexapro and tapered off to 1 mg throughout the pregnancy. I picked the dose up to 2.5 then to 5 in the postpartum period and I breastfed the baby for 6 months as well. It was a risk I took, the baby is fine. :)

Many. It’s fine if you are doing it under a doctors care. Generally the feeling is that the fetus and baby at at far higher risk from a depressed woman than they are by the antidepressant

I was on an antidepressant starting in the last trimester with my son, although I probably should have been on them throughout the pregnancy. He was born full-term at almost 9 pounds, perfectly normal.

I am pregnant now and have been on an antidepressant throughout the pregnancy. My doctors are more concerned about my good mental health than the potential effects (which are not much with my current medication).

Some antidepressants should not be taken while pregnant/breastfeeding.
