What are some song lyrics that you misunderstood, or didn't understand at all, for years?
OK, this question was asked 3 years ago, but let’s give it another run…
Almost every single word in “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” was gibberish to me, but I loved the song and sang it with gusto anyway!
But what prompted this question was listening to “Sweet Home Alabama”......“Singin’ songs about the suubway….” Well, that’s just what I hear! Two years ago (and that song came out, what, 30+ years ago?!) I found out the word is “southland,” not “subway.” But I still sing about the “suubway,” anyway. Change is hard. : )
And you?

Louie, Louie.
If you decipher the lyrics to this song and its meaning, please advise me.
Was the word Jamaica really in this song?
“Revved up like a douche?” Ooooooh, “Revved up like a deuce” now I get it.
@john65pennington It’s about a a white man falling in love with a black woman. “She was black as the night. Louie was whiter than white…..he took her home to meet his mamma and pappa, man there was a terrible fight…Louie Louie you’re gonna cry.”
2’s are revved up @woodcutter? It’s wrapped up like a douche!
You’re lost? You should have been me, trying to get up the courage to ask a girl how that works.
Sweet Home Alabama for me, as well.
2nd verse talked about how Neil Young dissed the south in his song “Southern Man”.
I was convinced the 3rd verse refered to a Marvin Gaye song called “Conscience”. Instead, I find they were saying “Watergate” not “Marvin Gaye”.
Too many CCR songs were nearly unintelligible to me for far too long.
They were the days when things didn’t need to make much sense, better if they didn’t
There’s a song from Metallica called Blackened. In the end, one line says ’‘never is the sun’’. But forever I always thought it said ’‘never use a sword.’’ I was like wtf.
Now if anyone can me what the fuck this guy is saying…XD
This video of a gorillaz song explains it pretty well
As much as I like this song, I still don’t know what the song is about. Apparently, the songwriters, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, said there’s a secret message in it. After 20 years of listening to it, I still don’t know the meaning of the lyrics!

Is it about a savy porn actress who is married so some guy who is in her shadow?
Apparently it’s about youthful memories, but when I was younger I thought “Come on Eileen” had an entirely different meaning.
“Mama’s got a squeeze box, daddy never sleeps at night.”
I still don’t get “Horse With No Name”
CCR ” there’s a bathroom on the right.”
Jethro Tull ” and you make all your animals deal”
Horse With No Name…@Judi…. I always thought they were saying, “In the desert, you can’t remember your name ‘cause there ain’t no one to give you no fame….” I always thought that was kind of freakin’ profound man. Then somebody on here ruint it for me by telling me that the words were ”...‘cause there ain’t no one to give you no shame.” That’s not profound at all!! Anyway, I don’t get that song either except for that one part which isn’t that one part any more. : (
I tend to glaze over when I hear rap… so by the end of the track I have no idea what any of the lyrics (?) words, whatever, were anyway.
@pezz That’s not the way you are supposed to listen to rap?
…is there a right way and a wrong way to listen to rap???
@Dutchess_III Yup. With the volume all the way off, sounds better.
I can sing rap.
Name’s Squall, I’m up, in dis house,
Up, in dis bitch,
Skulls will fall, Imma rape your spouse,
Throw em in a ditch, douse the house, burn it like a witch.
I cut down the best like lemonade, wi mah mudderfuckin gunblade, and I ain’t got no time, to be waistin wit you slime, nobody’s gonna sing your serenade, you’re all dead yours souls are mine.
…
I’m sorry.
And not a single fuck was given that day. :p
@woodcutter How are you supposed to edure, sorry listen to c rap?
@pezz didn’t say I didn’t like them :-P
@pezz I don’t know how they do it. They’re tougher than I am I guess. Or angrier.
