Would Fluther be different if it allowed photos and videos? How might it differ from Facebook nonetheless?

And might you be interested in such a change?

I’d share some but I still wouldn’t share as much of my life as I do on Facebook – most of my FB friends I have been friends with for years or I can completely rely on them. Flutherites, while I respect and like most, are simply not in the same league. I do think I share more of my pictures here than others so in that sense I’m not as private as other flutherites but for them, it’s probably better to be private, in that they like it that way.
Your comment inspired this question.
@zen Yes, I figured our conversation on that thread lead to this one. That’s good, because it’s very interesting to think about the differences and similarities between fluther and fb.
I don’t post videos on Facebook but I do have a bunch of pictures there of me with my family. I don’t know that I would do that here as all my Facebook friends are people I know in RL.
I don’t like FB and keep my FB page whitewashed. Fluther’s different, and other than an occasional picture, I like my anonymity.
Just add a link to your other crap in your profile. I thought this was a question and answer site.
I would not post photos on fluther. I don’t even use my first name, and I think about changing my username all the time, because people who know me can guess it is me. I did put my photo as my avatar for a short time in he beginning, but decided against it.
Ryan is right – but it also advertises as a community – community feed – we’re a community – etcetera.
But the other point is that on FB you choose who can see your pics. To a certain extent. I noticed that people add me to all kinds of things, tag me and bag me. So i don’t have that much control once a photo is posted there.
But @johnpowell is entitled to his esteemed grouchy opinion.
@J – I know a jelly who did just that – ask Lisa to change it for you. We’ll know it’s you after a day or so.
@zen I asked her a while back, and it was no problem, but I never did it. I think I might start from scratch, new name, no lurve. Maybe after taking a couple weeks off. Every so often I try to think what name I would use.
I think there is a way that it could be done but it seem superfluous. Fuck, it has been a month and they still haven’t fixed the notification settings.
If people start posting shit like “Is my cat cute?” with a picture included I would bail. Google+ is for that.
It would be fun to do a Q asking what new name should I use, but that would defeat the purpose I guess?
Well Imade a quick mock up a while ago of what fluther would look like if photos could be embedded in threads , and this would be a fetature you could turn on or off, it would just display photos as embedded or a link depending on your choice. I really like it.
I must agree with @johnpowell . I am interested in people’s questions and answers. I don’t need a FB-like experience on Fluther!
I also agree with @johnpowell. I like to be a bit anonymous here. Fluther is for Q & A, Facebook is for keeping in touch with people I know irl such as family or friends, or people I have met online who I wouldn’t mind meeting irl.
Would Fluther be different if it allowed photos and videos?
Yes. IMO, different in a not-so-good way.
How might it differ from Facebook nonetheless?
I’m not certain how you’d prevent it from becoming an imitation FB I’ve seen other sites that operate FB-ish…Not what I’m looking for at all
And might you be interested in such a change?
No I wouldn’t. One, I think it would be too much too look at. 2) It’d be less anonymous. 3)Some people would go nuts adding photos or videos to every post. 4)I like how we can add photos/links now.
I think Fluther is great how it is.
Fluther turning into Yahoo! Answers.
OR
Fluther turning into Facebook.
I really don’t know which one would be worse.
