Possibly. What kind of computer and printer are you using? Is your printer connected to your network? It can be done because I do it. Not difficult, we just need more info.

Sony Vaio, Windows Vista

HP Photosmart series printer.

The printer’s hooked up to my desktop. I only have one printer in the house.

On my laptop, I went to control panel >printer>right clicked on the printer>sharing

It said sharing is not supported for this printer. There’s no option for me to enable. What do I do now?

It can be done wireless if your printer has “wireless” icon on the front or if it is network capable using a cable to router. Need to know the model # of HP printer.

Have you tried turning on Printer sharing on the desktop?

You have to net work the printer to the computer. Take a few minutes to do, but it is not relatively that hard. You can find the instructions in your computer manual or by calling the company that you bought your printer from. If worse comes to worse there are tons of internet forums to help you, just search wirelessly networking my ________ printer to my _______ computer. Even you tube has tutorials. There is not much you can mess up by doing this so give it a try, if you don’t get it the first time try to search why and tweak the settings accordingly.

I can print from my laptop from a completely different room. We have a wireless network in our house, so access to the printer is available from every computer in every room.

Can you connect the printer directly to the router? If you can connect it, go open a web browser (Internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera) and enter 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your router of course, if they are both wrong then look it up. Once inside look for a place with a device table, it should have a list full of names of your devices and there IP addresses (example, Kitchen computer – 192.168.0.2, Living room computer 192.168.0.3) and look for one that says printer or the printers name and write down the IP address. Go to Control Panel and click Printer and Faxes, hit “Add a Printer”, select Local attached printer to this computer, uncheck automatically… Then on next page select, Create new port, and select on the drop list “Type of Port: Standard TCP/IP, a new window will pop up hit next, and where it says printer name or ip adress enter the IP address of your printer. Then let it ride through, once it asks you to print a test page print one, to see if it connected then attempt to print something. If it doesn’t work report back maybe someone else can help. Or look on the printers company website.
