What makes something a GA or a GQ?

What is it that makes you think, ”Now that is a really GQ or GA!”? Do you have any special criteria that must be met? Does it matter who posted the question or answer? Does the person have to agree with you? Do writing standards matter to you? The collective wants to know!

I give a GA to everyone that responds to one of my questions. I also give GAs for answers that express what I would also say, answer the question well, or are clever, funny, and/or creative.
GQ is a bit tougher to nail down. Sometimes it is something that I’ve wondered myself, sometimes it is just thought provoking and interesting, sometimes I give a GQ just because it has gotten a lot of interesting responses… and that makes it a GQ to me. Sometimes it’s just fun.
A good question is simply just that especially when it is specific and to the point of what is being asked.
A good answer is also just that but often will contain a funny twist or better yet, provide a whole other perspective on a maybe not so well crafted question. And then there are the outside of the box answers that just leave your jaw in your lap! Those are the ones I wish we had unlimited lurve to award!
I consider a question great if it is well written and asks for an opinion on something relevant to my interests while being open minded. I’ll post an answer to questions that are highly biased, but I don’t consider them great.
A great answer is one that is rational and well thought out, not just a knee jerk response, and if challenging someone else’s opinion, is at least respectful that the other person has a right to their opinion no matter how misguided they are.
And then there are other questions and answers I consider great if they’re really funny and cleverly crafted.
I give GA’s to anyone that answers my questions, even if I don’t like what they have said. They took the time to read it and give me an opinion. I give GA’s to someone that has stated what I was going to, but beat me to it. @Marinelife seems to do that all the time. If I’m reading through a thread and see that everyone but one person has a GA, I will give that person a GA unless it is some horrible answer and usually it isn’t. I give a GQ to a question that makes me think, or that I have wondered about myself. I give GQ’s and GA’s to people that disagree with me, just because they make me think, or I’ve made them think. Funny answers get a GA. People I love get GA’s.
I give a GA to a good answer. That may be an answer that fully answers the question along with personal expertise or a citation or attribution. That may be a very witty response or mot juste.
I am pretty liberal with my GA’s, not so with my GQ’s— I give GA’s for many responses that get a reaction from me and have become a little automatic. I’ve probably maxed out on my lurves for a lot of people. My GA’s are given to answers that are thought provoking, give a unique perspective, humorous, or sometimes I give GA’s in show of support to a jelly that I know needs support.
I admit I don’t usually give GA’s to jellies that I don’t like—there are very few, but I have given them GA’s even though I don’t like them, just not as easily as ones that I like.
GQ’s are different—they’re not as automatic. I have to read the entire post then go back up then give a GQ. I’m more likely to look for the next question than do that, but when I do, it means I really did think the question was awesome. For me, the points should be 3 for GA and 5 for GQ!
If it makes me laugh, makes me think or both then I give it some lurve.
I give GA if:
-I agree with the content
-It makes me laugh or is fun and creative
-It considers an angle I never thought of
-It answers the Q on point
-It’s supported by facts, links, etc.
I give GQ if:
-It’s something I’d want to ask too
-It’s well crafted
-It serves a practical purpose
-It makes me think and do a lil research
If I feel that someone has read my mind and stated what I was thinking, I’m all over the GA button.
If I feel that someone has made a point that made me look at a situation differently, or shown a point of view I hadn’t considered before, I’m all over the GA button.
If I feel I need to answer a question ASAP because I’m so eager to get in on the discussion, I’m all over the GQ button.
If I can’t answer a question but I’m so interested to hear what people have to say that I click “follow question,” I’m all over the GQ button.
I share the lurve all the time. [even if I get offended by what someone else say]
I use GA on all questions I get on my “questions for you”.
I just click away, don’t you? I never get it when I see some lurveless and others with multiple lurve – above and below the other jelly. Too much thought is put into this crap.
@zen Exactly! I give lurve freely!
I was listening to this when you linked me to some stupid applause. Enjoy, it doesn’t get much better than this. Pink Floyd – Mother – with Sinead O’Connor. Here
GA : Something that is readable, paragraphs and a lack of typos help. Something that makes sense, often I give them out if they share the same veiwpoint as mine. If they’re funny, sarcastic and smart. If they are detailed answers and easy to understand ( if in General, evidence to back up certain points ). I too give out GAs to anyone who answers my questions, regardless of what they wrote. They took the time to answer my question.
GQ : Anything that is thought provoking, something I often asked myself, or wanted to. Something funny and of course, those random questions that pop up once in a while. Party threads, lurve threads and game threads always get a GQ from me too.
Answers that attempt to answer the OP’s posts, no matter how controversial they could be.
Questions that will spark a good discussion and allow people from different expertise to answer.
Both questions and answers must be well-written, easy to understand, and elaborated enough, if necessary.
I guess each persons have their own criteria of GA and GQ aside from the regular rules in fluther, I find myself easy to please with any kind of valuable Q and A.
Sweet holy moly, what makes me think a question was a GQ is something either everyone has thought about but never asked, something no one has thought about but is apart of everyday life, or something that expands the imagination. A GA is one that has a tight argument based off logic, short of iron-clad facts, and not dribbling from emotion. Not made the way ot was made because they didn’t agree or like the subject.
It doesn’t matter who made the question or the answer, if it made good logical points I will give it. I don’t have time to play the petty childish game of ”They think like such and such”, “I know they never lurve me, so I won’t lurve them”, or “that is the person that believe doing _____ to animals is OK. I hate that, so I won’t lurve”, etc. I can’t prove it but I figure that goes on way too much, though you’d never get anyone to admit it. I don’t boycott anyone, even though I have strong opinions to the opposite of theirs.
Writing standards, I don’t fret. If I can understand what they are trying to say and they have a typo or two, I am not going to be a grammar/spelling Nazi behind.
Something that makes me think, makes me laugh, or makes me care.
Something with Boobs, or anything Lisa asks as it happens as often as a Blue moon.
