What do you think it will be a perfect radio experience when you turn on your favorite radio station?
I’m in the radio business, we rely too much on surveys and research just to figure it out what people want. However there is a question nobody asks and I think it may be the ticket to success.

A lot of music; a very little bit of talk and advertising. Classical or rock and roll oldies.
It’s been forever. I do want it to be funny.
Ok, Let’s all of us understand that music is the purpose of radio industry. you will heard a lot of music in any format. and let the surveys and research do their job about what type of music or genres people want. Besides that issue:
What type of experience you want?
a) do you want to control radio as you do with Pandora website?
b) do you want to skip music you don’t like?
c) do you want to listen to a morning show again (recorded) at evening?
d) what do you want a dj inform you? news? gossips? entertaiment?
e) do you want to hear other people thoughts about trending topics and not djs?
f) no more controversial topics? or please let it be more controversy!!
I’m looking for experience. @Simone_De_Beauvoir give me a nice respond. let see what other people drop in here. thanx
I totally agree with marinlife here.
I was a dj back in the early 60s. We had no Super Hits to play back then, we were making history each time we showed up for work and played the oldies you hear today.
A little talk, a good commercial or two and let the rock carry on!
Top 40 stations always carried the number one spot in radio advertising and rightly so.
It worked back then, but the stations today are out there somewhere….....lost.
Early Steve Dahl or early Mancow when they took risks and entertained before the corporate raiders told them what to do instead. Fresh, new, fun is what I crave.
@marinelife @john65pennington music is has been taking care already by the corporate sharks, Im asking about entertainment and what people wants that make us go back for more as we do with tv.
What makes me go back is the playlist.
@marinelife Ok, let me tell you the truth because you don’t understand. Music is never going to be the way you like it. This isn’t about Music it’s about content and coming back. You will never heard a station with all the hits you want because at the end of the day this is a business and in the circle of life everything is attached to make possible the music you heard today. Artists need a label to getting noticed, with a label you need a station to be played, to be played you need a hit. to get a hit you need to be played a lot thru others stations, to be played you need to be registered as a song, that song needs to be register by a publisher, that publisher need to pay the artist for overtime the song gets aired, to be on air the station need to register all the song it plays and to play the song that song NEEDS A LABEL. see? you will always going to listen to music that means business.
So, Stop pushing the music playlist solution, because that won’t happen. The question is what moves you in radio? aside music.
