If you work almost exclusively on a computer at your job, does it frustrate you when people assume you're just goofing off?
You know…you can be slammed trying to catch up, but it’s a quiet kind of slamming, keys clicking, eyes squinting, mouth moving, head aching with concentration….. Then some computer illiterate co-worker walks up and says, “If you have time to stop playing on the computer for a minute we could use some help up front.” Grrrrrrr.

Yes! When I worked like that then people would ask me all the time to look stuff up for them or ask me why I hadn’t answered their personal emails. ”You’re on the computer ALL DAY, surely you saw me trying to get a hold of you?”
Where I work now, I bring a laptop to keep me company super long shifts while on a switchboard so I actually can goof a bit.
Not really, I just brush them off. Ideally, I would insult them and tell them they have no idea what they are talking about, but they aren’t worth it.
That would probably frustrate me too. Luckily for me, I work in a place where people are well aware of what I do and what I’m doing if I’m on the computer working.
No, luckily I work at home.
I don’t know what people think. I’m my own department. No one says anything. One could argue that I’m goofing off all the time, but whenever a customer shows up, I serve them as fast and efficiently and as well as I can.
Amen, sister! My last job involved constantly being on the phone or computer. I was the manager, receptionist, diplomat, maintained the internal network, created and updated the company website, always getting and replying to supply bids, creating spreadsheets and databases, finding replacements for outdated technical parts… not one second that I was not focused on the job.
Then I’d get the… “Since you aren’t busy…”
Dope slap.
I actually am just goofing off.
