Have you ever been made fun of by a hypocrite?

Asked by laineybug (5331points) August 15th, 2011

I express things with my hands very often when I talk, and sometimes one of my sisters or other people will make fun of me for it, but later they’ll be talking and they’ll make almost the exact same hand gesture. At that point I’ll think “Wow, they’re being such a hypocrite.” Has anything like that ever happened to you, or is it just the people I’m around that do things like that?

Yes, they wished I would die from my disease and they have one themselves. Big time wow there.

Yes, all too often. Your sisters are probably just teasing you, trying to get under your skin. Still annoying. People will accuse of things they do themselves probably throughout your lifel there is a psychological term called projection that you might find very interesting. It is basically when a person accuses others of doing a certain behavior, when in fact they do it themselves, and are in denial about it. They project that negative part of their personality onto the other person, or other people. I would not say your sisters are projecting in this case, I would not say what they did needs psychoanalysis, LOL, but it is a mini example of what can happen.

If you ever study family behaviors you’ll notice they tend to mimic each other. Like JL said, they’re just trying to annoy you. Blow em off.

@laineybug, as humans we are trapped inside our own internal references and perceptions and we are often hypocritical without realizing it. That adds a lot to the satircal dimension of life. The old timers used to call it “the pot calling the kettle black!”

Everyone is a hypocrite to some extent, some more than others. It’s best to ignore them instead of letting it bother you.

I’ve had people accuse me of pointing (apparently a grave offense) at them when I wave my hands around in emphasis, but that’s about it.
Bring attention to your sister’s hypocrisy. The resultant shame ought to make her stop.
