What could you add to the Fluther art gallery and what can you say of your submission?
I would add the first piece, it maybe is not my best, but it is one of my favorites. I call it Runaway Slaves, it is a watercolour painting on D’Arches paper. It originally started as just a landscape, the tree was similar to one I seen in a National Geographic, and the rocks from another magazine. I wanted to put the two together. Since I find most landscapes boring I had to add some figures. The back story in my mind as she and her younger brother escaped their barbarian task master but now she don’t know what to do or where to go and their water has run out.
Do you have a piece of are, some origami, a sculpture of clay, stone, wood, or even toothpicks (I love those)? Maybe a mural or digital art? Did you paint your kids room in a theme? The gallery is empty, what would you help fill it up with?

I paint, sculpt, and draw, but I’m a better photographer than anything, so I’ll add a photo or two.
This is a photo I took a few years ago. I designed and built the set and took the photo. When my band finishes our first full album, this is going to be our album art. Here it is in album art form.
This is a photo I took at the fair last year. It is one of my favorites. It’s titled “Carousel” because it’s a carousel.
EDIT: Ok, so I’ll add two of my favorite drawings.
Pashtun Man
and
Robert Smith
Both are pen and ink.
lucillelucillelucille’s art belongs in there. Both her pottery and her paintings.
I have a very inspiring 20 year old fruit cake I call the “monolith”.
1932 Ford Acrylic on board I painted this in high school and have loved old cars ever since.
American Tree Sparrow Acrylic on canvas I painted this a few years ago from a photo I took while on my walks
Seashell platter Handpainted,wheel thrown stoneware
I have some unfinished album art that I’m working on, I will be submitting it to a youtube musician to use on one of his albums when I’m done. Here is the art
I have a Ferris wheel I made out of colored wire and soda can seats. The base is a piece of wood painted and cut to look like a bucket of popcorn. It was in an art fair and it really turns! :D
Ha! I’m too busy repainting the terrible artwork on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel so doubtful if I have time to even post something here. ( btw, my girlfriend calls our bathroom the Sistine Chapel since I tried drawing on the ceiling God handing me a roll of toilet paper)
I did this thing some thirteen years ago, when in therapy, during the ‘creative therapy’ hour.
Some children like(d) it.
@rebbel Great! Can I put that in my bathroom ceiling too? Lol. ( seriously it’s awesome )
Thank you, @mazingerz88 , and yes, you can put it wherever you want!
@mazingerz88 rebbel’s art would make an even better display as a mosaic tile floor for the bathroom.
@rebbel I like it as well.
I think that is a Pterorebbel! Lol.
This.
It was literally a quick doodle on a graffiti app with extremely limited colors and tools, but I just found it today and had forgotten all about it…. so I feel like it’s the right choice. It reminds me of Aeon Flux, which was definitely not my intention, but I like it anyhow. It’s exaggerated and a bit cartoony, which is not the norm for me. That might be what I like the most about it, actually.
I would put one of my favorite drawings that I’ve done here, but I don’t have a good picture, so I’ll explain it. The picture is of a girl with black hair crying, walking into the wind, wearing a very torn and ripped dress. It’s not very good, but I like it.
@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard What scale did you make that too, and what did you make it out of? I know the secret of the trees, Lichen, huh?
Pashtun Man, is that all ink or paint for the color?
@Vunessuh Your style is a lot like this artist I painted murals with, Ruben Trajillo. Though he used acrylics, he had a way of blending that made it look like a photograph, and you didn’t have to be way off the piece either; even up close the detail was tight.
@YARNLADY Ahhhh…..the “@YARNLADY moniker takes on a whole new light………
@lucillelucillelucille The chrome toning and the glisten you got off the lacquer finish is impressive, not the easiest thing to do many times in acrylics; toss in hand-thrown pots, way to go.
@poisonedantidote Surely you jest :-)
@mazingerz88 At least there is a “throne” in there LOL
@ANef_is_Enuf Reminds me more of a serigraph or some block printing method, with a little Nagel influence thrown in.
I dabble in a lot of arts.
I make a ton of j e w e l r y. I love doing this; it’s currently my favorite hobby.
I needlefelt flat landscapes mostly but sometimes wrist cuffs and three dimensional objects/animals too.
I’m currently working on my first wood carving but it’s still a ways off from being finished.
And then I draw, mostly digitally but sometimes using traditional methods too. And I’m working on a digital piece right now that I talked with you about, @Hypocrisy_Central, in a recent thread about art, dunno if you remember. I’m still at work on it, haven’t finished.
Amature of many, master of none. But I’ve got my whole life ahead of me! :)
This is the first and only painting I’ve ever considered to be finished.
These are my two most recent works in progress.
All are all acrylic on canvas.
Oh yeah, and as far as technical skill goes, this shows next to nothing, but I still like it.
@Hypocrisy_Central the model house and pick up truck are both N scale. I don’t really think the dinosaur has a scale. I just found it in a box of old toys.
The Pashtun Man is all ink.
@Mariah that looks like a punk rock album cover.
I never finished this because the further I went, the more I was fucking up the zombies. But I like the lower left zombie where you can see just his eye. I like the drawing just for that one guy.
I have a painting of one zombie I did, which didn’t turn out as bad as I thought, but that won’t fit in the scanner.
@Symbeline you need to finish that. I would probably buy it from you if you finished it.
Macaroni art?
It’d probably be some function tool I’d made. The first longbow I made, though it’s not impressive to shoot, is really cool looking. It’s wrapped in black leather and has white rabbit fur bits at the end, and for string silencers. It makes it look purdy.
Me thinks there are some disturbed Jellies
here …….. <walks away with nervous whistle> :-P
A jelly and I once drew a cute little outdoor scene together, but unfortunately when my laptop died a few weeks ago it was lost forever =/. I’m still sad about it.
@FutureMemory Wait a minute! You, @Mariah swapping digitial pixels and paint under the clouds, in nature au natural!? You monster, how could you!? Defiling her pallet and soiling her colors.
Actually I was working on some I plan to finish when Splotch got doomed by the SUV, it kinda took the wind out of my sails. I think there will be some surprises coming. ;-) <wink>
@Symbeline Well, I most sincerely hope that is not a self-portrait-! I always knew you were good for somethin! LOL. Let me gather some zombies in the nude so you can draw them live.
@mazingerz88 Haha, the guy with the shades is someone I knew though. One of my dad’s friends who was a huge zombie nut. I thought it fitting to put him in there.
I reworked some images of the vesiculæ seminales and early stages of embryonic brain development into a botanical etching.
It got a good laugh from my instructor.
Jolt
It’s a photo I took at an LCD Soundsystem/Arcade Fire show, but I must have whipped around something when I took it. But I kept it and fiddled with it in Photoshop, et voilà!
@Nimis That kind of reminds me of a baby Triffid…..
You guys waaaay out class me, but what the heck. :)
This is a painting I made of my daughter’s avatar, for her 16th birthday. Acrylic on canvas.
Auggie I didn’t know you were artistic!
So that is how @augustlan unwinds after whacking Jellies for poor spelling and bad questions….. LOL LOL Seriously, I never would have guessed it. Surpises all around. :-)
@Hypocrisy_Central That’s so terrible, it’s great. Ha.
@augustlan I love that you made your daughter an avatar for her birthday. That’s awesome.
@Hypocrisy_Central what a great question, I had no idea there were so many talented artists in Fluther!
Here is one of my carvings.
Here is one of my watercolors
Here is a carborendum print of darters (they are my favorite birds)
I think everyone should update this gallery as they do more work! I love seeing all this art.
@rooeytoo That darters scuplture is on hit. Your watercolour style reminds me of a famous watercolour artist, at least he was well known 20 years ago, I only wish I could remember his name. Your watercolour work is very traditional. Loose and flowing.
I’m really enjoying seeing everyone’s art. Who knew? Thanks for asking this, HC!
@augustlan I just hadda ask. I seen some art the Collective did in another thread and that got me thinking there were some secret De Vincis in here. I was right, I know people just hat that thought LOL, I am sure we have not seen the last either.
Make note to self, when I win the lotto commission wood sculpture or darters, lawn display sized.
I could add a lot of porn :-p
@Hypocrisy_Central – I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something oddly familiar about your new avatar…
Ummmm…...really? What could it be….......? Of course, future Jellies will be clueless on what just transpired, but that is one of the many Fluther mysteries. LOL LOL
@Hypocrisy_Central – You mean you’re not going to keep that as your avatar forever and ever….
Lol. They seem similar, indeed…:D
I have a tiny obsession with @Hypocrisy_Central‘s avatar project. I love checking to see who his profile picture is every day.
@Hypocrisy_Central when am I not throwing a gauntlet down? Here is the full size version. You know… for reference. Fun fact: this is the cover to my band’s first album.
A challenge….<picking up gauntlet> Mark my words Freddie, Mark them well, I have spoofed your predecessors and I will spoof you. :-P
Since we’re playing with each others’ avatars… :-p
Hmmm, doesn’t come out so good squished to 100×100 px.
