Light headedness while running?
I am an ultra runner and about 6 months ago I started to get light headed and dizzy while running. These usually pass fairly quickly and I can continue on. The amount of time running before this happens can vary also. I can also seem to know when it is coming on also it is the why that i can not figue out why. My age is 41

That could happen for numerous reasons (lack of oxygen, low blood pressure, low blood sugar just to name a few. It’s probably best if you see your doctor to see what they think and see if they want to do any testing.
If you eat a sugary snack (energy dink, energy bar-especially Cliffbar, etc) just before you run then you may be experiencing an over compensation in insulin. This will quickly drive your blood glucose level way down far below normal levels and thus cause your light headedness. Then as blood insulin level drops back to normal your blood glucose increases back to normal and then you start feeling good again after about 2 to 3 of slow miles. I know this to be true in my case and since I lay off the sugar just before I go jogging I’ve had no problems.
I had the same thing and then I got some Iron supplement and,..... all better :)
Sounds like you may have a hemoglobin problem. If it continues, I strongly recommend you see your doctor. On the other hand, it could be nothing more than a drop in blood pressure due to the heavy exertion. If you don’t want to bother with a doctor, try taking something salty just before a race. If that doesn’t do it, try some iron tables, but be careful! Men, especially, need to avoid taking too much iron. One small tablet per day should do it until you can judge whether that was the cause.
Take it slow, warm up to your jog by walking first. Make sure you drink about an hour before the run. Try to cut out anything that says “high fructose corn syrup.” They don’t hydrate you like you think. You gotta get the blood flowing pretty well at first, like warming up the car for a minimum of 30 seconds, let the blood flow with at least 200 yards of walking. That’s two football field sizes :) good luck.
