What is the film title for 1940's? Film about two seperately married people that meet up the same place every year and have an affair?
The film is about a couple that meet at hotel, I think they get the same room? Mixup? They are both married and fall in love. I think the man is away from home for business and the woman is visiting an elderly relative. They meet at the same hotel for the same week every year for many years, but for various reasons they cannot get together.
The film could be English or American, it is very romantic and compelling. I watched it as a rerun on BBC2 years ago and would love to see it again, please help me get the title.
I know it is none of the obvious ones like An Affair to Remember or Brief Encounters!

I saw one on cable called Same Time Next Year that was sort of like that.
I really do not think the one I saw was 40s vintage. It had a definite 70’s or 80s look to it.
Same Time, Next Year is a 1978 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Robert Mulligan. The screenplay by Bernard Slade is based on his 1975 play of the same title. The film opens in 1951 at an inn located on the Mendocino County coast. Doris (Ellen Burstyn) is a 24-year-old housewife from Oakland, George (Alan Alda) a 27-year-old accountant from New Jersey. They meet at dinner, have an affair, and then agree to meet once a year to rekindle the sparks they experience at their first meeting, despite the fact that both are happily married, with six children between them.
Over the course of the next two dozen years, they develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect to find between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year. During the time they spend with each other, they discuss the births, deaths, including George’s son Michael dying in Vietnam, which changes George politically, and marital problems each experiences at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.

Maybe you’re thinking of Love Affair(1939_film) , the British film that An Affair To Remember was based on. I can’t get the link to show up properly, but you can navigate from that page. Does the couple look familiar ?
