Why don't jellies come to chatrooms?

I chat often but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen nobody in chat.

I tried but I just can’t follow some of the conversations sometimes. Too many acronyms.

Every time I go to one, five minutes later they leave. Must be my new cologne.

I check in every now and again, but it’s empty a lot, y’know? Some nights, though, you can have a crap ton of people in there.

Because I fluther from my iPhone and it’s a pain to get to them.

I’m there on the weekends a lot. I’m also there right now.

I have checked into the chat rooms once or twice and I thought it was confusing. Also, I didn’t want to “interrupt” so I left.

They have impromptu moments of activity. It never works to plan chats but if a couple people start up, they’re usually joined. I use them fairly frequently and can verify @incendiary_dan has attended

I found the format too hard to use. I would be happy to PM with any jellies.

Like to chat to individuals, not groups. Too much noise to signal.

I check the rooms and when they are empty I walk away.

The people I’d like to chat with never seem to be in the chatroom when I check.

The way I type, it’s like someone with a severe stutter at a dinner party, always two conversations behind.

My activity is too sporadic.
Don’t have time to sit and chat.

@Blueroses Low my standards in what way? I don’t know tha they are high or low, I just don’t want to chat for the sake of chatting. There are some people I’d like to get to know better and ask them stuff w/o having to write a PM and wait for their reply.
Also, you are one I’d like to chat with given the chance :)

Chatting requires me to devote my full attention to it, but Fluther is something I usually have on in the background and dip into here and there, while I’m doing other things. I’m not able to multi-task to the degree I’d need to be able to participate.

I was only teasing @Porifera. I assumed you’d have high standards for chat-worthiness. Now, of course, you’ve disproven that theory. ;)

I don’t use them because I forget about them. On the rare occasions I check them out, they’re usually empty. Also, I never know which one to go in. Tidepool – Fluther Help and Current Events are pretty obvious about what they’re for, but I don’t know what the distinction is between the other four.

I’m not comfortable with rapid-fire chatter or glib with wisecracks. I’ve given it a try several times, but when I enter, the conversation stops as if the teacher had just arrived. I’d rather talk to people one at a time anyway.

@Blueroses What gossip?? If it’s the story about Jeruba and I it’s all lies, I swear ;)

The last time I looked there was nobody there.

I just went in. There were supposedly three people there, but clearly they’d already drunk themselves into a stupor. They were comatose.

Slow typing skillz. I can’t keep up.

I don’t know about the slow typing excuse. I might type at 90+ words a minute, but I’m not typing the entire time I’m in chat. There are long periods during which one can think and type.

In part because, like now, there is no one else there.
I also have a hard time jumping into the established conversation when someone is there.

I go there sometimes. I usually need initiative from my jelly counterparts though. @Blueroses sometimes tells me when she’s in there so we can chat.

Sometimes I feel that Fluther is one big chatroom. I don’t go because either there’s no one there, a conversation is already established, or there’s nothing for me to talk about.

I have had some fun chats with @Blueroses, @Zen, @Aethelflaed, @LadyMia, @everphebe, @ladymia and others. It is a great thing to do when people are about.

I try, but the interface is a bit rough. The sounds are really loud, so I turn them off, but then I don’t know when there’s new stuff. So it just requires a lot more attention than I’m normally willing to give it, especially just for hanging out and waiting for someone else.

They don’t let me in there anymore…

But yeah, I check it out now and then, it’s usually empty. Sometimes, someone invites me in there through PM, but the PM is like three hours old and everyone left by the time I get there lol. Have had some rather cool chat sessions every now and then though.

That doesn’t really answer your question, but I don’t know why it’s often empty. As I can see from users here, several different reasons.

No one ever invites me. I don’t really know why. Maybe I don’t want to know why. I’ve had a good time there with @Blueroses and @Symbeline and @vanessuh. They are some crazy ladies! It’s tough for me, because as everyone knows, I don’t do crazy—being about the sanest person you ever knew—but still, it’s fun. Maybe that’s it. I’m not crazy enough. Or too old. Or too male. Oh never mind. I’ll go answer a few questions. Good luck.

But then my genius won’t be preserved forever, the way it is in a post. ;-)

Well I wouldn’t dream of speaking for anyone but myself, so here’s my own personal take.
In a place where chat is readily available & indeed rife in both social & via PM’s, it seems slightly redundant to frequent a custom made “room” for that precise purpose. Regardless of this, i’d have no desire to visit any tw@room, me no likey.

@ucme makes a good point about the presence of chat in social. It seems that chat lost its relevance when Fluther made sections. Before there were sections, we were not allowed to ask questions that were oriented more towards chatting than discussion. Chatty questions would be deemed “more appropriate for Fluther chat,” and they would be moderated. Now that we have the sections, people can ask anything on the main site, and chat has largely fallen to the wayside.

Even before the change, there was a certain ebb and flow to chat. One of the biggest complaints people had was that they could only ask chatty questions in chat, but they often couldn’t find many people there to ask. It also did not generate the same kind of feedback as asking questions on the main site where people can see and respond well after the question has been asked. While it seems the format change has pulled traffic away from chat, it allows for input from more jellies on chatty questions. With the rise of social and the continued ability to PM, the chat rooms became largely unnecessary. It seems they now exist primarily as a relic of times past.

They need to remove five of the chatrooms. It is so slow only one is needed. A year ago when they were busy we needed the extra ones. Now they just fragment an already small group further.

@Blueroses I guess her frequent comments about people noticing her beauty, wanting to be known as the paragon of beauty on Fluther etc. puzzled me because I never took a good luck art her avatar, I thought it was a historical image (read: not her), but the last time I looked at it I thought to myself “hmm, maybe that really is a picture of a real person” so thought I’d ask. I didn’t intend any offense, and I know this is the internet.

Actually, I want to change it along with its name so that I could born as a new person but I’ve promised Auggie that I could only do it once. Remember when I lost my ability to talk to animals after I’m not a Dr. D anymore? Silly me!.

I’ve pulled back almost all my pics in internet ever since I retired from FB. I did put my sisters pics as separate accounts (without their permission) in fluther and one of them look almost like me. Now you got a clue! I prefer anonymity here. You can still find my real pics in dating sites but I won’t tell you! psst! I’m a Chinese, not Egyptian.
