Do you think Obama has a good chance of being re-elected? It seems before he was elected, there were a lot of people talking about change and all that good stuff, and a lot of positivity about the future. Now a lot of what I see in the papers and on TV is about him and his “struggling presidency.”
I am not an Obama hater, but nor am I particularly a fan, so I’m not arguing with anyone, just looking for opinions.

I do, but only because the republicans have nothing but nutjobs running
If he does, it will be because he spent every penny of his Billion dollar war chest once again pulling the wool over gullible Americans eyes.
I can’t imagine why not. Democrats wouldn’t want a Republican in office. And I can’t imagine Republicans (the ones who matter) would want anything different. Keep Obama and continue to keep his hands tied so the economy keeps getting worse. He’s shown no signs of a spine in his presidency so far. So after another 4+ years of fellating big business and recession, they will be able to just walk right into 2016 with no opposition at all and nothing lost.
If they can have a Republican-lite in office, label him a Democrat, and watch everything continue to collapse under the weight of the Bush tax cuts, war spending, and continued unquestioned agenda, why not?
But what do I know…
As I recall, Obama said:
“generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth.”
Health Care is more expensive, there are more jobless, The whole global warming thing is falling apart, We’ve added a third war to our tally, and most of the world thinks we’re a joke. I’d say he’s fallen somewhat short on his promises.
It would take a miracle to keep Obama in office. Since the world was slated to end in 2012, I suspect he’ll try to convince us he is the one the kept it from happening. Kind of a ‘jobs saved’ strategy. I don’t see it working.
But just in case, guys, please don’t elect Palin. Please.
It looks a bit grim for him, I think.
@Jaxk Sadly, the facts rarely figure in to an election.
No.
It won’t be because the Republicans have tied his hands for four years or because the American public is “stoopid”. It won’t be the media’s fault nor will it be due to the mess that Bush II left behind.
Obama won’t get a second term because of the very people that elected him in the first place.
The voters that put Obama in office placed upon his shoulders an enormous load of unattainable goals. They painted him in to a corner before he even took the oath with pictures of a utopian America right around the corner. They ignored all of his talk of belt tightening and sacrifice and only heard that we would all have free health care, the troops home, and a dependable job. His political base and biggest fans preached this as scripture, all the while ensuring that he would never get a second term.
The poor guy never had a chance.
I honestly don’t know what to think at this point. Some people think he’s an automatic win, others think there’s no way in hell he’ll be re-elected. Frankly, I hope he’s not, but I guess we’ll see what happens.
I have no idea. Clearly he has low approval, and due to the economy, he hasn’t been able to do the things he said he would. The economy is bigger than any president but, like it or not, the sitting president is always responsible for it, except for during the honeymoon period.
So you would think the Republicans would have an easy time knocking him off. However, they have forgotten the moderate wing of the party, so most of them are rabid, spitting conservatives who are ready to chop the government into bits and feed it to Halliburtan as soon as they get a chance.
I think the people know this, and are reluctant to make a change, because it’s bad either way. So the middle will hold its collective nose and vote. But which way will they lean? It’ll depend on which way the boat is being jostled at the time.
If the economy does not pick up and if Romney is nominated, it is going to be a tough fight. If the economy picks up or if one of the Tea Party wing nuts is nominated then I don’t think he should have much of a problem.
I think that he would lose to a strong republican candidate, but if there is not a strong republican candidate, he will probably win.
Even if he did lose, I don’t really think that it would be his fault. To be truthful, there was no way he could have fixed the economy within four years. But fixing the economy is always what people expect of a president elected during a recession.
Of course. He’s gonna help provide jobs right? (cricket noise) right?
In all seriousness I would be astounded if he were NOT re-elected. He has a couple of very huge things going for him.
1. The competition sucks
2. He was the president in charge when Osama got taken out
Somehow I don’t think so, but that might depend on who else is running…I think America is awesome, however the politics seem laughable at best, many of the time…to me it always seems like a retarded talk show that doesn’t really solve or do anything. Concerned Americans must be pissed off at the whole deal.
Personally I think Obama’s intentions were great, and running a country must be pretty hard, but he didn’t do much of what he said he would, so that has this running against him like mad, I’ll bet.
@digitalimpression Rumor has it that they’re making a movie about the Osama bin Laden thing for release prior to the election.
@gorillapaws You’ll have a tough time getting anyone to believe that.
Yes. If this country will be driven to hell anyway, I prefer a Democrat, not a Republican.
@gorillapaws FYI, as soon as california voted Arnold into office I stopped following politics. I’m sure you’re right. 4 tenths of one percent is a big deal. o.O
@plethora & @gorillapaws
They do that with a little creative accounting. They measure Obama differently than they measure everyone else. The real Numbers show Obama at -2.4 million jobs as of July 2011. The worst record since Hoover.
@Jaxk is that including the 1,950,000 jobs that were lost in the first 3 months Obama was in office, before his economic policies had a chance to make an impact on the markets? If so, who’s the one being dishonest about the data now?
“We lost 4 million jobs before I was sworn in; 750,000 the month I was sworn in; 600,000, the month after that; 600,000 the month after that. So most of the jobs that we lost were lost before the economic policies we put in place had any effect.”
@gorillapaws
I understand your point but if your going to discount the jobs lost due to the recession at the beginning of Obama’s term, you need to discount the jobs lost at the beginning of Bush’s term as well. That changes his number significantly as well. Remember Bush inherited a recession as well.
I have no problem if you want to adjust the numbers based on a specific criteria but when you do so, you have to adjust the numbers for other president based on the same criteria. In other words be consistent.
@Jaxk that’s fine. Do the math and get back to me, also be sure to include the 1.95 Million jobs lost under the first 3 months of his successor’s term (since were being fair).
@gorillapaws If you’re gonna go there, let’s count all the jobs the big O has eliminated with his open arms illegal immigrant policies….around 7Mil at last count, although I don’t think it’s necessary to go there at all to consider him down for the count. By his own admission, in a recent speech, he said the problem is “bad luck” for the last six months.
Yes, if the Republicans nominate intellectual dwarfs and completely unqualified people such as Bachmann or Palin. They can’t compete with Obama. It would be like Michael Hebranko trying to outrun Ryan Hall.
i think if Obama supported some kind of Healthcare Assistance-obviously the USA is too big a Country to upstand an N.H.S. but they could have some kind of small paid-in assistance .Healthcare in the USA is extremely expensive and I really think if he supported a National Assistance Healthcare Programme he would be remembered as a President who really changed things for the better in the USA.He may not be able to do much about the Economy during his Presidency but he really could do something about providing Affordable Healthcare for All American Citizens.Insisting All American Citizens have Healthcare Coverage as it is is NOT going to Win VOTES,but providing an Affordable Healthcare System WOULD and it would Win-Over Republican Voters too.
What I do not understand is why Mitt Romney is not running away in the polls. I am a Democrat and strongly opposed to Romney, but he seems to be the least crazy of the Republican candidates. At the time I am writing this, Herman Cain is in the lead. Herman Cain has no political experience and a questionable grasp of domestic and foreign policy issues. I wonder if Romney’s Mormonism is a big factor among right wing Evangelicals.
if you wanna get down, down on the ground, herman cain
