What will the Republicans say if the rebels win control in Libya?

Asked by LostInParadise (32185points) August 21st, 2011

We may soon find out, but I thought it would be fun to speculate. The one thing that you know they will not say is, congratulations, job well done. Here are some possibilities that I thought of:

1. The situation has been destabilized by removing a reliable ally and secure source of oil for the West. The country has been left in turmoil. The situation can only get worse.

2. It is too early to tell if things will improve.

3. The rebels would have won without our help. We just wasted tax payer money in supporting them.

4. Big deal. So some petty dictator has been replaced by mob rule. We have more important things to work on.

Michele Bachman: “We congratulate the Liberian people and wish they will find peace and a longduring stable political era.”

Michelle Bachmann opposed the intervention, saying ”“Overnight we are hearing that potentially 10 to 30,000 people could have been killed in [one NATO airstrike]”

So if she is honest and honorable, she will call for war crime investigations.

They are going to jump in with both feet with some killer new weapons deals and other financial aid packages to get them on board.

Erm… I’m not exactly sure how the reaction to this international issue would be divided along party lines.

The fifth option: The US will waltz in and try to act like New Libya’s best friend. The government will immediately recognize them as a sovereign nation to get all the other major players to follow suit, then Uncle Sam can take credit for getting them legitimized. US companies will rush in to try to help the New Libya economically, as well as themselves, the oil companies especially. Uncle Sam will get Halliburton a sweet deal to help repair the infrastructure, and most of the subsidize bribe aid will be heaped on the back of Joph Q American as necessary for US interest, so, shut up and agree with your politicians who know better.

5. All those membership dues we paid to join Nato finally yielded results.

I’m guessing, they will give credit to the brilliant and wise geo-political long-term strategy of George W. Bush, as inspired by the brilliance of previous pseudo-cowboy/president Ronald Reagan.

I had not thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. After criticizing our participation all along, they will end up trying to take credit for the results.
