Are birthdays evenly distributed throughout the year or are there months with higher statistical incidence of birthdays?

There seem to be lots of birthdays in the spring. Why? Are people going on vacation in August and conceiving lots of babies in their free time? Or is my sample of friends’ birthdays misleading? Does anyone know if there are more babies born in any given month in the U.S., or is it pretty evenly divided?

August seems to have more births than other months. I’m guessing a lot of people are getting it on for New Year’s Eve.
Over half of everyone I know has a May birthday. My wallet can vouch!
I don’t have stats to back this up, but I’m fairly certain there’s a concentration of births around August – October where I come from, which ties in with the shortest days and lowest temperatures in December/January. ....and of course, nothing good on telly.
there’s alot of September babies… 9 months after new years!
According to this article, most birthdays in the U.S. from 1978 to 1987 were in September, with August and July coming in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
And btw, the article also states (but without stats or example) that “the U. S. peaks in late summer whereas Northern Europe has more spring birthdays.”
And now you’ve got me interested in the Birthday Paradox, too.
That’s pretty cool robmandu…..but now my head hurts.
Between me and 2 other friends we know people who have birthdays everyday from April 15 – May 23.
(Mine is tomorrow) :)

Since it’s coming up for midnight here…...I’m gonna go ahead and wish you happy birthday now :)
I know that there’s a WHOLE lot of people I know who were born Nov 14th. or around there. (Nine months after valentines day)
Between friends and family November to February and June.
