Can we have a sound off from Jellies who were (are?) being affected by Irene?

Asked by JilltheTooth (19792points) August 28th, 2011

As a follow up to this Q can you let us know you’re OK and what your situation is? Oh, and anyone who wants to say it’s not bad cuz it’s not like Katrina or you live in Florida and this is nothing, please don’t. There are other threads where that seems to be appropriate.

It’s 9 AM here, Irene was just downgraded to a tropical storm, the brunt hasn’t hit us (SW coastal CT) yet, many here are without power, lots of trees down, flooding already and not the worst winds, yet.
KatawaGrey and I still have power, and no property damage. Keep fingers crossed!

Good luck @JilltheTooth I am on my deck reading the sunday paper and sipping a cappuccino on a beautiful summer morn hoping my east coast Jellies get through this unscathed!

We made it through the night without even losing power. The wind and rain did not seem excessive.

We were mostly spared, in part because Irene started moving back out to sea a little as it passed Norfolk. We’re still getting a lot of wind and the occasional burst of rain, but the worst of it has definitely come and gone.

Just heard from Janbb on FB. She’s fine, without power, but fine.

Augustian is fine. I just talked to her on aim.

MissAusten was posting on FB this AM also, they’re OK.

We’re here in Brooklyn, NY and we made it through the night. It seems bright and calm outside now.

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Probably you are in the eye? If so be careful not to go outside, backside of the eye has fast winds that are in the other direction. Items that have been knocked loose outside, when they are hit with the opposite winds sometimes get knocked loose and start flying.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@JLeslie Yep, we know. Not going out till tomorrow.

If I didn’t know it was out there, I would never have known.

Augustlan, mangeons, laineybug, and I are all fine here in West Virginia. There was a big storm here yesterday during the afternoon and evening, but nothing too out of the ordinary, not even any power outages. However, my sisters and I have yet to see our house in Maryland, but we did not appear to be in the direct path of the hurricane so we are fairly certain that all will be fine there as well.

2500 ppl are stranded in NC they decided to not listen to the mandatory evacuation. I hope none of those are jellies. They have no contact with civilization. I hope they will be ok.
Bluiiznh is doing ok so far..I’m happy about that.

I should also note, I am also happy that many other jellies seem to be good.

Glad to hear everybody’s fine. Lack of power sucks, but if that’s the worse that happens, it’s a big relief.
Eastern Canada is getting warnings now, although so far the only repercussions I got was some rain and strong winds.

Damn storm, get the fuck out of people’s lives.

I was in Richmond at the time, it was very windy and rainy and lots of trees were down and traffic lights out. But nothin bad. :) And today was beautiful!

I live about an hour north of NYC and there was no power when I woke up Sunday morning. My daughter was at my mom’s, so I ventured out and got some coffee from the local Dunkin Donuts, which had a line a mile long. Connecticut had no power (I live by CT border) and it was like a ghost town. The stores that are usually busy like Trader Joe’s were totally closed down, malls and gas stations closed up. I stayed home for the day, spoke on cell phone, cleaned my room. Went to my parents’ house and I am at work today, but will go home later to feed the frogs and cats and then back to my parents’ for the night. The food in the refrigerator will be no good, except stuff like grains. It will have to be all thrown out. I heard it could be days till the power comes on, because the crews are all super busy. I have a friend who lives in CT and she said it could be a week, she was told.
