What kind of statistics on bullying are you looking for?
Psst. You mean the effects or the*consequences* of bullying.
I did a google search for “statistics for effects of bullying” and there were a lot of things that came up in the search results. Since you are using these for writing a paper, I would try to focus on ones that have sources to go with the statistics. Here are a few that I found that might be helpful and you can probably find many others if you go look as well:
Taking a Stand Against Bullying is an article on the National Institute of Health’s website that may have some good information and sources for you.
Youth Violence is a page on the CDC’s website that talks about various things in regards to bullying (including some statistics)
These two should help you get started and give you some more things to look through to get some good statistics for your paper.
There are some statistics here that relate to the UK.
Go straight to your school’s media center and ask the librarian to help you plug some pertinent search terms into a database such as Wilson Omni Web or JStor. You will have so many statistics on the effects of bullying it will take you hours to wade through them.
Statistics
Bullying is a common occurrence in most schools. According to the American Psychological Association, approximately “40% to 80% of school-age children experience bullying at some point during their school careers”.[16] Regardless of the grade level, socioeconomic environment, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, bullying can happen to anyone. However, various studies point out that students from lower socio-economic backgrounds are more bullied than students from higher socio-economic backgrounds.[17] Most children experience bullying at some point in their academic careers. The following is a list of statistics that illustrate the severity of bullying within classrooms:[16]
20–40% of bullying victims actually report being bullied
70% of middle school students and 70% of high school students experience bullying in school
7–12% of bullies are habitual and pose a serious threat
5–15% of students are constantly bullied
27% of students are bullied because of their refusal to engage in common sexual practices
25% of students encourage bullying if not given proper education and support in anti-bullying techniques[15]
Due to the low numbers of students who actually report incidents of bullying, teachers need to have a certain level of awareness that will thwart any potential problems. This awareness starts with understanding bullying.
