How does a restaurant pick the vegetable of the day?

Asked by majorrich (14741points) August 28th, 2011

Today went for lunch at my favorite rib joint and as usual got a salad and vegetable of the day to balance out the bad (but oh so good) of the ribs. What was the vegetable surprise set before me? BRUSSEL SPROUTS! What would possess a chef to inflict that on the ribgoing public?!

What is wrong with brussell sprouts?

Who knows it was the choice for the day. Next time ask before just ordering the day’s special. That way no surprises.

Did you taste them though? You never know…they may have tasted good. I had some baby brussel sprouts last night. Frying them in butter, salt and nutmeg makes them taste quite nice.

I love brussels sprouts.

Baby Brussel sprouts are delicate and delicious when prepared with gentleness and affection.

These were tough and tasted of sulfur. I bravely ate them anyway. I like cabbage, but for some reason just can’t abide squishy strong brussel sprouts. Later today my family will be paying the penalty. lol

Tell the chef. He should learn to master the art of the veggie, even with ribs.

We have a local BBQ place that has had green beans as the veg-of-the-day for over 5 years
