Are those "Win a Free iPad 2!" things real?

Asked by pcmonkey (427points) August 28th, 2011

I really want an iPad 2! But, because I have an iPhone I really don’t want to spend my money on it. So I’m looking into all of the possibilities to win one. And you know how sometimes you click on a website link and then it takes you to “CONGRATULATIONS, YOU QUALIFY TO WIN AN IPAD 2!!”. And then it asks you to fill in all of this information, take surveys, etc. Should I put my real information in there? What will those websites do with my information? And is it kept safe? Do I REALLY qualify to win the ipad? I really want one but I’m not sure if they are real or not and I don’t want any of my info to get lost anywhere.

I don’t understand that in today’s day and age, people still don’t understand the phrase,“If it seems too good go be true it probably is.”

Sorry, but if those were legit, everyone would be walking around with in iPad 2 :/

Of course not.

I think it’s real, but you have to sign up for several credit cards, and maybe get your friends and relatives to do the same. Not a good deal, if you ask me.

These offers are mainly designed to gather your information i.e. Name, address, e-mail, phone, so they can:

1. Sell the info to other companies and/or
2. Send you more offers in hopes you will buy something.

To obtain the product usually requires you to go through a lot of hoops and ladders before you get the product if at all.
