Is there a word for the act of seeing someone else's POV?
I’m working on a story where, without giving too much away, a man can see through other people’s POV (perspective, step into someone else’s shoes) – the story sounds crappy if I don’t add much more. And I need a title for it and possibly a subtle last name that relates to perspective.
“Inception” is the act of getting an idea. I want the title of this to be the act of seeing someone else’s POV. Not “Empathy” because that’s not a verb nor would it make a good title.
But in the story, the guy loses his grasp on who he really is because of all the different perspectives he’s seen. So that might help you come up with a title.
Any ideas?

Empathetic and compassionate are the words that come to mind. Maybe this will inspire you. It comes from the Gallup Organization after 50 years of studying personalities.
Empathy
You can sense the emotions of those around you. You can feel what they are feeling as though their feelings are your own. Intuitively, you are able to see the world through their eyes and share their perspective. You do not necessarily agree with each person’s perspective. You do not necessarily feel pity for each person’s predicament—this would be sympathy, not Empathy. You do not necessarily condone the choices each person makes, but you do understand. This instinctive ability to understand is powerful. You hear the unvoiced questions. You anticipate the need. Where others grapple for words, you seem to find the right words and the right tone. You help people find the right phrases to express their feelings—to themselves as well as to others. You help them give voice to their emotional life. For all these reasons other people are drawn to you. Source
I think it’s a mix between Empathy and Remote Viewing, though I don’t really think of those as great titles. Maybe they could be, but they’re not really much of what I anticipated.
Does it have to be a single word?
for example, something like: “I get it.”
[not a great title, but i like the slight peevishness in tone)
“I hear you”
What about something like “Perspective”
Did you want a character name or a title for the play?
@lifeflame
Title, but character name too if you can think of one. Right now it’s Adrian Peterson.
Quick question, what is the main character’s goal in the story? To do good? To do evil? Is it simply a story of the effect this has on his own mind and losing grip? Whats the main point? Maybe we can come up with something better.
@asmonet To be more specific, he’s an inconsiderate man who’s given the power to see pretty much step into someone else’s conscious when he dreams. The people who’s perspective he sees would be people that could help him accomplish a selfish goal (undecided). But after seeing a shrink and becoming more considerate, he learns he can take control of these dreams (lucid dreaming) and control the actions of other people. (Actions that would happen anyway, just the main character can see, hear, and think everything from the person’s perspective) When he wakes up, he knows who he is, but as this goes on, he gets more and more confused as to who he is.
I was thinking that “clairaudience” was the word for this??
No. I had the wrong definition. Sorry!
@Carly
No, you have to BE him! : ))
So . . . the borderlines of his sense of self are dissolving? Sounds like multiple personality disorder, if it wasn’t a real thing that was happening to the character. Sorry, that was really helpful.
It’s a kind of mind riding.
You could call it “The Rider.”
The guy’s name could be Adrian Rider
Vicarious, which is feeling what others are experiencing is the closest I can get.
Transvoyance? It’s sort of akin too to channeling, and to rapport.
For a title, how about Another POV.
