Marcia was scary looking. Jan had cooler hair too!

I think the show played more upon the ‘middle child’ syndrome than the attractiveness of an older sister. Remember the episode when she took on this look? She wanted to differentiate herself from popular Marcia and cute Cindy.

The show was on long enough to discuss teen angst when it came to crushes, dating, and the challenges of dealing with peer pressure as the children grew. For as cheesy as the show was, they seemed to nail the emotions of the younger siblings witnessing what the older ones were going through.

Although Jan got very maligned and charicaturized after the show went off the air, at the time, me and all of my little friends loved Jan’s hair the most. It was long and luxurious and she had it pulled back into a ponytail just at the temples. She’s the one on the left in this picture

@Cruiser could you imagine being among those two? Two pretty young actresses probably complaining about the attention their TV sister was receiving… That young man took the only appealing path.

I didn’t think either of them was particularly attractive. Marcia looked mean and Jan looked vacuous and incomplete, like she hadn’t developed into the woman she would be. Do we know what they look like now?

@Sunny2: Maureen McCormick (Marcia) looks sickeningly perfect as always, but Eve Plumb (Jan) is pretty in her own way.

Oddly enough, when I was googling for pictures of the grown up Jan, I found mostly pictures of guess who: Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

Marcia was definitely prettier, and besides, Jan’s whining was a turn-off.

She was prettier, but definitely the type that one day could start screaming and never stop.

Looking at them now I think they’re both rather pretty, but their unbearably annoying personalities make everything else irrelevant.
