Do you know of any good websites or resources for documentary films?

Asked by Earthgirl (11219points) August 31st, 2011

I know that there are a lot of great documentaries being filmed that don’t get much publicity or acclaim except in certain select circles. I’d like to find a website with reviews and links to download (legally), or places where I could see or purchase the films.

Also, if you have seen a really great documentary recently (or not so recently) and you’d like to give it a plug, I’d love to hear about it! Tell us what it was about and what you liked about it or found inspiring, amusing, shocking, etc. Links are also great!

My picks are Desert Flower
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054580/
War/ Dance
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War/Dance
The Other Final

What are yours??

I would recommend IFC.COM. Also, all the independent film festivals are my first stop locations to check out whats being produced, contemporarily.

I’ve watched documentaries on SnagFilms. Also Hulu.

Your local public library should have some documentaries. Also, if you have cable, then I suggest watching Current TV. Sometimes it shows documentary films and they also have their own documentary series “Vanguard”.
The last documentary I saw was “Encounters at the End of the World” which I liked because I just love learning about Antarctica.

Michael Huntington Thanks, sounds like some good suggestions. I would never have thought of going to the library. I also like stories about Antarctica.
I have read some Peter Freuchen and I want to see this movie on Knud Rasmussen about the Thule Expedition. I kind of forgot about it until you said that, so thanks for reminding me!

I use Top Documentary Films all the time, I’ve never given it much thought so I don’t know how legal the site is, i know some of the documentaries on there are in the public domain but they have nearly 2000 so I can’t imagine they all are. Anyway there is plenty of stuff on there
