This online community almost seems clicky. I just had to ask.

Yep. I knew them here first, but I’ve met PnL, shrubbery, bluemukaki, kenmc, J0E, lefteh, and timtrueman in person. And soon…. gggritso. And one day… johnpowell.
I don’t think I forgot anyone.
This online community almost seems clicky. Before the grammar/spelling Nazis pounce you, the word I think you seek is ”cliquey”. It feels like that to you? Imagine that, I would have won a bet; I would have been so vindicated. :-)
No I haven’t met any yet. Hope to oneday when I am sure they have no food to hurl.
After years of questions and posts to and fro, plus the occasional PM – I feel I know some of the old-timers quite well. Now that I am skyping, I have had the occasion to see some face to face – which is less important to me personally than hearing their voice, which really adds a new dimension. All in all, I don’t need to reach out and touch someone to get a feel for them – and I’m sure that if I lived closer – we’d be friends and meet for coffee – in a cafe with wifi while fluthering, of course.
I’ve met lucillelucillelucille, bob_, perspicacious and a few ex-members.
I haven’t met anyone from Fluther yet.
I am quite friendly with a few though. There are plenty of members that I can send PM’s to just to say “Hello”. This site has evolved into a hang out for many of us – an online home, if you will.
I’ve met ayesha in person.
I’ve met Marinelife, Janbb, Jillthetooth, and Auggie in real life. They are all wonderful people.
I have met jude and Vunessuh has visited a few times:)
Well, right off the bat, I know Fly, mangeons, and laineybug, because they’re my daughters. :)
I also slightly know JLeslie, since we went to high school together.
I’ve met several jellies in person, including @chyna and the group she listed, but I met them on Fluther first. I love meeting jellies!
Not a fan but this song came to mind. Ready for this Jelly?
Nikipedia, Judochop, and NoCountry1.
Only one, namely @vagg.
If I ever visit America again I wouldn’t mind to meet some.
tinyfaery and lucillelucillelucille.
I don’t know any Jellies in real life.
If you’re getting a sense of clique-iness, that’s really too bad. I don’t see it as a clique-y thing – any time you get a bunch of people together who spend enough time discussing things and “talking” in a situation where they can get to know one another, friendships will develop. It’s only natural that someone might act more friendly to someone with whom they get along well than to someone about whom they know nothing.
Jellies, on the whole, are pretty welcoming and open to newer voices in the collective. If you’re feeling at all left out, it’s just that we haven’t gotten to know you very well yet. Given time, you’ll develop the same kind of friendships that the rest of us have.
I have known 3 former jellies, but haven’t met any current ones.
I knew a former jelly in RL. Knew him before he joined Fluther.
I have met several jellies in real life.
But I knew them all from Fluther first.
I don’t think it is cliquey here.
Have you tried to form friendships? Have you PM’d people?
It takes some time and back-and-forthing.
I know @Ben, @skfinkel, and a few of their relatives.
This site, as in life, is a collection of the many and the varied. I tend to gravitate towards some sub-groups and distance myself from others. However, I have loved being exposed to others’ life-styles and POVs.
Simone de Beauvoir, Incendiary Dan, mangeons, laineybug, fly, Poison, Fiddle, the LGBT’ers, Cak, WTF, Mariah, wundy, people with strong faith come to mind, along with dozens whom I don’t have time to list.
Is “belonging to a clique” synonymous with having a few really close friends, many nice acquaintances, a large group of interesting people “out there” and “a small group whom I tend to avoid” any difference from RL?
I haven’t met any Flutherers in person yet. I nearly did when one was visiting my city last year but in the end we couldn’t schedule a time :(
@downtide If you are referring to me, it’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to hook up in either your town or London. The snow, house projects, etc., put an end to meeting up in person, but I really hope that it will happen one day. I’d love to give you a hug.
JLeslie and I have casually talked about meeting up sometime, as we live ~10 miles from each other. Coloma and I briefly chatted on the phone one night. That was awesome. To answer your question though…no, I haven’t met one in person yet.
I don’t think it’s cliquey. I think it’s just a tight knit community. I think that it takes time, for all of us, to feel like you’re really a part of it.
Some of my friends and family have used Fluther, but very rarely. I don’t know any of the members personally, aside from that. Which barely counts. I’m not really big on meeting people from off of the internet, so I doubt it will ever happen.
I gave birth to KatawaGrey, met up with the crew @chyna mentioned, and had lunch with MissAusten. Just a start I hope, I’d like to meet many more!
I know a couple of ex jellies and met a couple of ex jellies. Simone54 used to work with me before he moved to Cali. Trance24 is my lovely girlfriend. And I’ve met Rangerr and Petethepothead
@Pied_Pfeffer it was a real shame we didn’t manage it. I’d love to try again.
I’ve met Chelsea and Richard Henry once for a few drinks.
@uberbatman Now you have a reason to head out west! Come visit, hippie. ;)
Jude
I feel since soo many Jellies live in CA, I should have met more. Ahem…Allie, Nikipedia, all the founders.
I’ve met the lovely @IBERnineD. I have yet to meet tinyfaery and Nikipedia… even though Niki is 45 minutes north of me.
Yes, a few. One is my best friend of over 25yrs who I first introduced to wis.dm, we joined fluther about the same time after wis.dm’s demise. The rest are former wis.dm members I met in person during a road trip/meet up and have kept up with since then. It’s been absolutely wonderful to exchange visits and also to introduce them to other friends of mine, similar to growing a family.
I met @rangerr at NYCC last year. Shit was off the hook! (seriously. it was one of the highlights of last year next to the GWAR concert/snowstorm). I plan to meet @Sarcasm in SDCC next year and hopefully I will meet @Symbeline @fiddle, @Mariah, and @uberbatman sometime in the future.
Nope. But this summer has been clicky around my house.
I know MacBatman31 because he’s my son, GialloBubble, and three others that aren’t on Fluther any longer.
I’d love to be able to meet you guys but sadly im far far to poor for travel. Maybe someday. I dont remember where you’re at Michael Huntington but if memory serves me correctly, dverhey you’re out near the west coast which is where I plan on doing grad school so maybe in the future we shall indeed meet.
@syz have you ever tried cicada before? I was in culinary school during one of the 17 year broods so we went out and collected a bunch because we read it was a delicacy in some places. I gotta say if ya batter them and cook them right they actually taste pretty damn good.
No, but I’d really love to meet some of the people here. That would rock so much lol.
Does meeting a Jelly by a 2nd degree count? I met a friend of Blueroses. She was wonderful!! :D
My husband, of course. My oldest son joined 2 years ago and asked a couple questions, but he hasn’t been around since (he’s in college now)
I do know 3 other jellies, but I knew them before Fluther, and they haven’t been around for almost a year now.
Sadly, no. I know some pretty well by their online persona, but none in real-world contact. If there are some in the Boston area who would like to meet for coffee and get acquainted, I’d welcome the opportunity.
I was decent friends with a former jelly, had no clue they fluthered until recently (as in seconds ago when they popped their head over my shoulder and was like, “this still exists?!”)
For the jellies who are hard pressed to afford travel. @rebbel in another thread had proposed an idea of a money pot where a group of people contribute and once a month or whatever agreed upon time, a lot is drawn to see who gets that money. The same could be done for jelly friends (I’ve done this outside of fluther)- you could each put in $25. or more per person in your group and then draw to see who gets the plane ticket and then to where.
We should have a New England Jelly get together. Watcha say, @ETpro and @JilltheTooth? (and others)
How far out in the woods, @incendiary_dan ? I’ve got a lot of my camping gear already out cuz of Irene, and if you’ll kill us some dinner I’d be happy to eat it!
@JilltheTooth That could be arranged, but the likely food I kill would be berries. :P
@uberbatman NYC. I know how much you hate it (Can’t blame you), so I’ll reach to you via PATH or something similar. Won’t be anytime soon though :(
Ah sweet thats not far at all. Id make an acception to go to NYC sometime for that though :)
@incendiary_dan & @JilltheTooth I’m certainly game. Let;s see who else is in, and pick as central a location as we can. One that easy to get to for all involved.
I want to go on a fluther campin trip with incendiary dan. I went on one with petethepothead and rangerr last summer. I feel hangin with dan in the woods would be a good time :)
I tried setting up a camping trip over here in Oregon. Mostly we suggested it then didn’t plan it at all. Oops.
If anyone makes it to western Illinois, we have a nice campground with a swimming lake just a mile and a ½ from the Blond household. We’d love to have you. =)
I truly hope to some day make it to Illinois to visit with the Blondes family. I really want to meet them.
@chyna We had a lovely evening here tonight. Wearing sweatshirts as we fried catfish and onions and jalapeno rings. Sweet corn was boiling as we listened to Django. Jon and I took a walk in the cornfield too. good times You are welcome anytime. :D
Monsieur @Michael_Huntington, if it’s alright with you… I’ll catch up to you guys at SDCC. Last year was the first that I’ve missed in a while. It’s about a 20 minute drive for me!
