Wax stuck in my ear?

Asked by kb12345 (435points) September 2nd, 2011 from iPhone

After I showered tonigt I was q-tipping my ear and clogged it with wax. It wasn’t too bad but was distracting me. A few hours later I put hydrogen peroxide in my ear because people said it would help. It made it 100x worse and feels full of fluid which is an even worse feeling!! What do I do I need to fix this fast it’s so annoying!!

Lean the effected ear to either the left or right side and put the palm of your hand flush with your ear. In other words cup your hand over the ear and push back and forth like a plunger used in the bathroom. The suction created should have the water and wax out of you ear almost instantly.

I’ve been doing that nonstop..! Nothing yet!!

Try denatured alcohol…it will help absorb the water stuck in your ear.

You need a bulb syringe to flush it out with warm water after the peroxide has been on it for at least five minutes,

You can get ear wax removal drops and a bulb at the nearest drug store.

Please do not do the suction cup thing. There is a lot of potential for inner ear damage if you do that. Best bet is one of the bulbs with some warm water. It might take a long time but at least you won’t fuck up your ears.

Don’t q-tip your ear.
Go see a doctor or nurse to get it removed properly.

Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.

This morning I woke up and my ear was still very clogged and annoying. I found a wax softening kit in my bathroom put the drops in and flushed it out with the bulb and warm water. I can hear perfectly but no wax came out?

You must have dislodged the wax away from around your ear drum and it may be still clinging to the side of your ear canal.

I have experienced what you are going through twice in the last 15 years. I found that dilute hydrogen peroxide (about 1%) works good to soften up the wax and then a few hours later I use a flexible plastic pipette to blast warm water (body temp) directly into my ear canal while my head is hovering above a sink. Man you should see the wax that comes flowing out of my ear into the sink.

@gondwanalon That sounds simultaneously disgusting, and extremely satisfying.

@Megan64 The best feeling is regaining the ability to hear. Also if the warm water temperature isn’t exactly body temp (which I haven’t been able to do) then it messes up your inner ear equilibrium so that you feel dizzy and off balance and even may have the urge to vomit. But that only lasts for a couple of minutes so no big deal.
