Which foreign country do you admire and why?
And if you could go beyond the usual aesthetic reasons like that country having great sceneries, please delve into what impresses you about its people, culture, history and tradition. Thanks!

Iceland.
Beautiful people, beautiful language, the people are so sweet, and their history is so much fun.
^^ I love their accent. Bjork.
Alberta, Canada. Beautiful!
Japan. I love that they don’t believe in being tipped and consider it an insult to be tipped for doing their job. They see it as an insult. As if to say, you believe they wouldn’t have done their very best otherwise. Although some jobs are ok to accept small gifts as a show of appreciation. But I think its with jobs that may involve taking up their time away from other jobs.
I also like how polite the majority of the people are. Not all but certainly more than in the states.
Customer service workers do their best to help you out.
I also like the efficency in which you are served. I remember, even at the McDonalds you are treated very well and quickly and the sandwiches are put together so precisely. Here, they sometimes look like someone flipped the lettuce and tomato on it from across the room. Your burgers rarely look like the ones in the ad. Now in Japan they look exactly like the picture every time and its served quick and pipping hot. Only difference is you do get less meat. :(
But hey, you don’t get as fat.
Belgium…....I like Botswana, for the name alone.
I have to say South Africa (but it’s not my no 1, just because its green, lush and full of sexy people, and my SO is from there). But my heart truly lies in Italy, everything from the language, the country itself, the people, the food (oh to die for some of it) the clothes, the architecture, the sense of history steeped in everywhere, the cafes, the churches, the old ladies sitting outside their houses chatting….....just everything.
Right now I would have to say France, I loved all the wine, food and art it has to offer. I can’t wait to make another trip there when my daughters get older to show them the country.
Canada. The people, for the most part, are friendly and easy going. (The Quebec-ans are a bit over the top with insisting on speaking French and refusing to be helpful to people who can only speak English) I like the puckish sense of humor and constant politeness. If I HAD to move, that’s where I’d go.
I love Japan. Even with all the trouble with earthquakes, tsunamis, radiation leaks, and Godzilla, I would love to live there. They seem to be a quiet, dignified people; curtious and kind. And their anime and samurai movies rock.
I like The Netherlands. I forgot why but I like it. ^^

I like Philippines. Here’s an Asian country, that was imperialized by the Spanish named after King Philip the Second, then the Japanese, then the U.S. I admire that they could’ve easily become a U.S. colony. Which essentially it is, but they maintain their own rights to their land, and any U.S. military presence is the result of a rental program in which the Philippines would benefit from. Furthermore, through so much colonization by other countries, its rich in culture. I think its one of those nations on the rise.

I like China for it’s history, philosophy and culture. Not all of it, there is stuff about it I hate and I don’t like the present regime much but overall it fascinates me though I haven’t yet been there.
Feedest ye notte yon trolles.

England it’s foreign to me at least. I mean come on – Doctor Who, The Beatles, The Spice Girls, essentially the entire punk genre, Alan Rickman…they build things to last.
I like the cultures of a few other countries too
Japan. High standard of living there, people are generally mannerful, orderly, and well-behaved, the crime rate is very low, and there’s a lot of fantastic entertainment and new things that come out of that country.
Sweden. Beautiful country and very modern and clean.
Most of Canada. Like the U.S. almost, but with more open space, and the health care system is much better.
Canada. It has all of the breadth of continent and climate that the US does (OK it’s a little further North), but with many fewer people and good social programs. (medicine).
Japan. Never been there, but…they got a really different culture, and although I wouldn’t wanna be a part of it, it’s certainly interesting and admirable. My laid back and depraved life style might use a dose of their orderly values. They lack balance as well though, so all that restraint they learn to live with in their lives sure makes for some wild parties, fucked up customs and creepy ass movies and porn.
Plus, Japan makes kick ass video games.
Also, ninjas.
Thanks to all of you who said Canada. It is truly a wonderful country. Every province has its own distinct landscape. But you said foreign country so I would have to vote for Israel or Ireland. These nations have something mystical and mysterious bred into the very fabric of both their landscape and culture.
@smilingheart1 Yeah. I live in Canada, and I must say, it fucking rocks. :) Lived in Manitoba and Québec, and in Ontario for like three days, would love to see other parts of it.
Japan, Norway, Holland, Germany and any country where the people are striving for peace and personal liberty.
