Do you have a pica "disorder"?
I am hearing about pica being a desire and especially an acting out of eating something that is non food and doesn’t make sense to the rest of the world. Sometimes these odd eating substances are even dangerous to the person’s health who has the disorder. As a kid I used to eat red crayons for example. I must have been looking for flavour but I did work a few over no matter how bland they were….wrappers and all. Okay closet pica people, are you out there?

I have no desire to eat charcoal,yet I burn everything I cook.or maybe I do?? ;)
Nope, but I have a disorder on the obsessive compulsive spectrum, and I believe that pica is considered to fall on the spectrum… so I can relate in having the urge to do weird stuff. :)
I knew a guy who used to eat trouser legs, “You’ve got to pica pocket or two!” Fagin was his name, strange fella ;¬}
Seems to me that I recall a case of people who like to eat clay-containing soils, and that there’s actually a sound medical reason why they would want to do that, and that it’s actually helpful to them (depending on their necessity) as long as they did it in moderation. If I find that again I’ll post a link.
@CWOTUS pica isn’t typically treated as a behavioral disorder before deficiencies are ruled out. It often manifests as a symptom of iron deficiency anemia.
@ANef_is_Enuf, thank you for stating that. I have read that too. Do you think there is any iron in gravel? Not Gravol (lol). There are people ruining their teeth out there trying to chew the stuff.
I’ve seen this elsewhere as well, but here it is from The Straight Dope who’s generally aces on all kinds of interesting questions.
@CWOTUS
I have heard that.
I remember people chewing pen caps as a kid. I chewed gum a lot as a kid. It calmed me down.
My autistic son is Pica but OT and Sensory Integration has helped a lot.
