Do you know of any contemporary Arabic musicians?

Asked by cthulette (177points) September 8th, 2011

I’ve begun learning Arabic and I would like to listen to some Arabic music. I’m particularly interested in Arabic pop and rap. The dialect or country the band is based in does not matter, but I would like suggestions that I would be able to find on Pandora or YouTube, or something like that. Shukran!

“Mo’ Rockin’”, who play at the Moroccan pavilion in Walt Disney World’s Epcot. I am always impressed by their performance. And I still have no idea what is that instrument on the left.

Not sure if you just want a feel for the music, or are very concerned with the lyrics? Shakira has a very popular song Eyes Like Yours in English, Ojos Asi in Spanish, that has some Arabic in the chorus, and the music is middle eastern in sound. Here are the lyrics

Here is a video, but it is the Spanish version (Arabic still in the chorus).

Side note: she is Lebonese, so I am not sure how much the language might differ from mainstream Arabic? My knowledge of Arabic is very small.

Ooh you should listen to Nancy ajram songs. She’s a lebanese singer and alot of her videos have english subtitles. Mustafa Amar and Ragheb Alama are also a popular arab singers.
and like @Jleslie said, Shakira’s Ojos Asi has a nice arabic feel:)
