How good is Interpol?

I saw a show about Interpol, I think it was on 60 minutes on CBS. They do indeed do some great things, but are not given the budget many think they should be. I think it was Clinton who funded it better than it had been in many years previous to his Presidency? I could be wrong in my memory. I have no idea if Presidents since have maintained, added, or subtracted support, including financial support for Interpol. What I remember is they truly want to work as a coordinating force around the world, so the atitude is without borders or the possessive feelings among various police organizations who only work their territories and at times seem reluctant to coordinate with other agencies.

While I was living in Sweden, one of the major downtown Stockholm banks were robbed. The robbers fled across the border to Norway. The joke was that the robbers were hanging out in a bar in Bergen when one of their cohorts came running in…

Cohort: “I’ve got good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?”
Robber: “Give us the bad news.”
Cohort: “The cops are after us.”
Robber: “What’s the good news?”
Cohort: “They’re Interpol.”

Damn, I was hoping this was about the band.

Interpol is not so much a police force in its own right rather it’s a means for various national police agencies to liaise and coordinate their activities.
And that band is one of my favorities.
