Have you used the translator on the Goolge Chrome web browser, and what do you think of it?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37747points) September 10th, 2011

I just used the translator for the first time on this article. It thrilled me to read what one foreign correspondent had to say about Obama’s speech on the American Jobs Act, even if the language was clunky.

Have you used the translator, and what do you think of it?

I’ve used it before and it’s not as accurate as it could be. However, it does come in handy when reading in a language you don’t know. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense at all, which I’m sure could be fixed by including modern slang into translators.

I think it works well enough to sift through blogs. I wouldn’t quote anything off of it though.

translate.google.com works fine and even better, I don’t have to touch Chrome!

I do like the feature, but sometimes the translations are bad enough to make me giggle. It is very, very helpful in many situations though, and easy, too. I would say it will probably improve with time.

Its rubbish, I have used it to translate some ‘Afrikaans’s to English and visa versa….gets all the dialect wrong and pronunciation too…but its robotic so what do we expect.

I love this; ”. Michelle Obama, en robe fuchsia dans sa loge de First Lady,...”

Speaking of translation, it’s vice versa.

I don’t like Google chrome, It lacks a lot of features. Maybe if it’s improved a little, I can try it. Anyway, for the time being, I recommend the normal “Google Translate”, it’s way better.

@gailcalled haha…you noticed…damn thought I would get away with it! :-)

I, for one, love it. That’s the sole reason I got around to doing my Spanish summer assignments.

I haven’t used the google chrome translator, but I’ve used the one @XOIIO linked to. It’s not perfect, but it works quite well enough for anything I’ve needed it for.
