What's a good, understandable reason for someone to bleed on a date?
say I want a character in my story to bleed. She’s on a date. The date can be anywhere. She can bleed from anywhere.
Already suggested:
-Cuts herself on a broken wineglass when eating somewhere,
-someone accidentally busts her nose with an oar while out canoeing.
No tampon jokes. That’s grody.

She can fall down and cut her knee.
Paper cut.
Sex in the bushes.
Mosquito bite. Kills the fattened mosquito.
Vampire bite?
Accidentally drops a knife while cooking and tries to catch it by mistake.
stands barefoot on a drawing pin
Bumps head on an open cupboard door
Punctures herself while using lobster implements to get meat out of the shell. it’s happened to me.
Cuts her finger while slicing a bagel.
Slams the car door on her finger and requires stitches. Always a good story there.
Something I should add, I prefer an injury that would be noticeable on TV. She works in TV, and it makes for good conflict.
She gets headbutted in the lip.
Due to excessive use of cocaine she has involuntarily nose bleeds.
Unfortunately she turns out to be a self-harmer?????
@redfeather what kind of date does this happen on? I’m interested
Or maybe she can have a problem with her nose like I do. My nose loses blood 2–3 times per day. Rather annoying sometimes but I got used with it.
Paper cut from a script, then. : )
She drops something and being a gentleman he goes to get it but so does she and bam she gets wacked with his head in the lip and gets a fat lip that is bleeding
Please clarify is she on a date or on TV? Or you want her to bleed on a date and have the wound visible on TV? Or start bleeding again on TV?
How about an earring gets caught on something (like the shoulder part of a seat belt), rips her earlobe, on TV that night it gets bothered by her earphone cord, and bleeds again.
@zenvelo She’s on a date, is injured. Blood is relevant to the plot. Next day, she goes back to work and is on camera.
She’s trying out a new sex position with the guy she’s on a date with and he hits her in the face with his knee.
Edit
Something noticable on TV should then be on the face or neck and/or leave a mark.
So: trips somewhere and hits her forehead on a table, cuts her self cooking something nice for the boy, guy accidentaly hits with his hand scratching her with his cufflink, attacked by feral cat, hit in the mouth by frisbee.
Her ears start to bleed due to the mind numbing banality of her dates shite conversational skills.
She turns around to her date, isn’t aware of how close he is and accidentally bumps her face into him, thereby causing her eyes to water and her nose to bleed.
Her normally mild-mannered cat swipes his claws across her cheek.
@unused_bagels, while on the date, she sees an old friend holding her one year old. She wants to hold the baby and the baby’s big head hits her in the lip and splits it. (this happened to me with my big headed child the other day.)
Or they’re rafting and she takes a helmet to the face.
Ebola
Stigmata
Chromium 6 poisoning
While she or her date are squeezing a lemon into their drink or over their crab etc, a bit of the lemon juice squirts out, hitting her in the eye. You could have the date accidentally scratch her face when reaching out to see if she is okay and she knocks his hand away. Or, you have the character go to the bathroom to washout her eye(s), and she fails to notice the wet floor sign in the bathroom, resulting in a slip where she hits an easily visible area on something.
(Ex: Lip to sink, face to stall door, neck to hot air hand-dryer.)
A cut she already had can open up. This happened to me. A sharp little paring knife slipped while I was fixing dinner, and the tip drove into the side of my left hand just at the joint of the index finger, a pretty high movement spot. It must have gone into the bone. Bled like crazy.
I was away from home visiting my mother, it was Friday afternoon, it was too late to see a doctor, I didn’t want to go through the ER hassle. So instead of getting the stitches I probably needed, I patched it up with Band-Aids and hoped for the best.
The following night I went out to a club with an old friend. Before the evening was out, the cut pulled open and started bleeding afresh. It soaked through the Band-Aids and made a mess.
That was ten years ago, and the spot is still tender to pressure.
She gets shot nine times. She survives.
Does it have to be on a date or can it lead to a date? One time, I took a co-worker to ER when her hand got caught in a door and required stitches. I sat with her through the whole thing as she did not speak English. The doctor showed up at work later that night inquiring about me, although in a story, it could have been about her.
Another time, I escorted a co-worker, a restaurant cook, to the emergency room when he cut his hand on a meat slicer. He is a hemophiliac, and I sat with him as he slowly dripped blood while waiting his turn. He later asked me out on a date.
I fell down drunk on a coffee table once. One of the many reasons I don’t drink anymore. I got an ugly fat lip after some nasty bleeding.
She pulled and picked at a hangnail and drew blood.
Or her eye filled with blood around the rim due to rubbing it too hard.
Or she bites down on her lip when she is surprised at seeing someone and her lip bleeds.
Or she nervously picks at a scab and starts it bleeding again.
While opening the wine she takes a shot in the grill from the cork and gets a fat lip.
