What was the most un-celebrative special occasion day of your life?
I am requesting answers only from those people who acknowlege special dates. (Some people have the “one day is as good as another attitude”)
Background: today would have been a wedding anniversay for me and my guy. This occasion has caused to me want to ask you what was the bleakest “special day” you have ever put in.
I hope you will share with me days that were MEANT to be happy and festive that didn’t go that way for any of a myriad of spoiling reasons. Will you share with me some details and P.S. thanks for helping me get through this day with a little fluthering.

My wife and I do not celebrate Valentines Day as we met a week before and both of us were fresh out of long term relationships and V-Day was not a day either of us had any interest in. Our first date was Feb 13th and has been our V-day since.
@Cruiser, thanks for your response! I see you are Cruising up to 30K lurve really quick! Congratulations in advance Cruiser!
Christmas, 1974. I was in fifth grade and my dad was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack. In our family, we typically opened presents on Christmas Eve. That Christmas Eve however, my mom and I went to the hospital as usual to visit dad and brought him a few presents. We went home and just didn’t open gifts. The next morning when I got up I opened my presents and my mom opened hers from me and from the sisters who didn’t live nearby. It was a very subdued holiday.
My grandmother passed away on New Years Eve, so it was a very un-celebrative yet memorable day for me and my family. Of course none of us even thought about “Happy New Year” at midnight.
Did you have a poopy anniversary?
Here’s my poopy story:
After a man I was dating and liked well asked me to be exclusive, a few months later he talked of marriage and a few months later was Valentine’s Day. I had this idea he had been preparing to propose to me on Valentine’s Day and eagerly awaited that weekend to come.
What actually happened though was he completely ignored the holiday and me, even after I’d presented him with a gift. Turns out he’d been having online shenanigans with some other girl he’d known and chose that particular weekend to “think about” about what our relationship really meant for him.
My family was boggled as to why I’d been dumped and especially on V-Day, they too had been teasing me, thinking the proposal would be on V-day. You can’t get any more un-love than that unless you’re left at the wedding alter.
Divorced dad. Most of the birthdays this year seem to have come during days when she has custody.
So a few birthdays, including this week, I have drank my way through.
About a year and a half ago, I knew to the very day I had lived longer than my Father.
Recently, I recognized the day I had lived longer without my Dad than with him.
It is an odd feeling.
I only really keep Halloween in mind, and even though I really don’t do much on Halloween night, I do love giving out candy. So it really sucked on the past Halloweens where I had to work and miss out.
Just a few weeks ago, my favorite kitty cat died just after midnight on my birthday. :’(
Holidays tend to bum me out as a rule, but last Halloween was especially awful. I always look forward to Halloween, and I usually do something for it, but last year I ended up just sitting around at home doing nothing. I couldn’t even get into the spirit of watching movies. Ended up just napping.
