Is it possible to get an original oil painting reproduced to have the same, or similar, painted look?
I have a printed copy of a famous painting by Vincent van Gogh, but I wish it didn’t look so flat. Is it possible to get a reproduction that looks more realistic? Or just in general, not so much with the van Gogh, is it possible to reproduce paintings with a similar painted look?

Yes, there are reproduction companies now that print on canvas in oil. You can find their works for sale at major museums (like the Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco) in the gift shop for people who want a print of what they’ve seen in an exhibit.
If you have something in particular, try going to the website of the museum that owns the original, and see if you can order a reproduction on canvas. They run anywhere from $90 to $200, plus more for framing, depending on size.
You might want to contact the user here that calls herself Dog. She is amazing and works for kibble. She painted this of my deceased cat in exchange for building her the most bad-ass computer ever made.
The picture really doesn’t do the painting justice. But she is very good and fast and cheap. Oh god.. I made her sound like a prostitute.
aww lol, @johnpowell that sounds interesting, but would there be a problem with copyright issues of some sort for appropriating a picture of an exact copy of another work?
Not unless you try to sell it.
It might not work with van gogh as he made very distinct brush marks but if you can get a copy shop to print the image on to canvas for you you can then use clear varnish to over the top to give the idea of brush work.
This site sells many reproductions (including Van Goghs) that have been hand painted on canvas. In the case of older artists, I would think copyright issues aren’t a problem.
I think you may be interested in a giclee print. this site has very reasonable prices for canvas prints with or without added brush stroke effects or they also offer commissioned oil reproductions.
Giclee’s look almost exactly like the original, with all the dimension and everything. Look Here
