It’s the (suspended) belief that you’re watching people who are having real sex (in that they’re not being paid / forced to do so), who have sex regardless of a camera. Viewers find themselves more engaged when the setting and the people involved are not “acting”, ie: the Olympics vs “professional” wrestling.

Holy moly, back in the day when I partook of such, I found myself gravitating to the amateur porn because it looked more like escapades I could find myself doing. With less than perfect focus, lighting, and angles I had to pay more attention and in many cases use more imagination. Many of them had frumpy women but you can avoid those. Many of the guys were dumpy but if the women were hot you can imagine that ANYONE can boink a hot woman under the right circumstances. The boobs were real almost all of the time, if you heard any grunting or moaning it was more natural and not just screamed audibly at all times even when you logically would not hear any. You did not see any over-the-top orgasms. There were some very good pro porn flicks, but they were very few, and far between, but apparently good enough for many people, or else they would have stopped making them long ago.

Because amateurs are really getting off on camera, while pros are faking it. Also the poses are so fake in pro porn. For example, nobody really sits casually with their legs spread wide apart. It’s obvious why pros do that, but it just shouts FAKE and STAGED, which, to me, ruins the whole thing. I much prefer amateur porn.
