There was a site that says virtually everything but the range, I think thats for a reason.
Many years ago they had a range if about ΒΌ mile without obstructions
I can’t give a number, as it is actually variable based on things like target size, weather, and other factors. However, as it can be greater than one mile, it is safe to assume that if they can see you, they can clock you.
@woodcutter That seems to be the rated average, but that is only because that is the range where it works 99.9% of the time. As the range increases, there is an increased chance that you may aim the thing wrong, weather conditions may degrade the signal, or what-have-you that may reduce it’s reliability/accuracy to less than perfect, but there is still a pretty good chance that they can get an accurate reading at longer distances.
Also note that even if 800 yards was the max, that is about half a mile, and many places have roads that have curves every now and then, often meaning that you will rarely find long straightaways unless you are in some deserted area like Arizona or Eastern WA where the only thing you see is the horizon. In practical terms, that means that if there is a line of sight to your car, you are most likely within range.
The laser guns that some jurisdictions now have are line of sight, and virtually instantanious. If your laser detector goes off they already have you.
Interesting article.
”. . . they generally do not use the laser gun beyond 1000 feet in the USA. That rule is often not followed, especially in Europe, NZ and AUS. You need one of the best laser jammers to cause the laser gun speed display to go blank.”
How Lasar Guns Work
This info deals only with lasar radar.
Lasar radar will not work in the rain or falling snow.
Lasar radar’s signal will stretch for two miles.
Lasar radar cannot be used with a mirror as a reflector for the system.
Lasar radar can only be used with vehicles approaching or leaving the radar source. In other words, Lasar radar cannot be used while the police vehicle is in motion. Other types of radar are used for this purpose.
