How do you confront guilty people who play dumb and innocent?

Asked by raven860 (2179points) September 14th, 2011

Guilty people answer with the “I don’t know what you are talking about” statement when confronted.

How do you react to them? or counter them?

Usually with something along the lines of “we can’t take it out safely until you tell us how it got in there”.

Oh yeah..I just let go of a 7 year “friend” about 6 months ago when her manipulative and passive aggressive stuff was beyond ignoring.

The very FIRST thing she did was pull out the dumb deck and feigned confusion and ignorance of what I was confronting her with.

The real kicker was when she started crying and trying to guilt trip me for calling her out on her behavior. Yep, it went downhill from there and I told her it had been coming for about a year that the “friendship” was no longer healthy for me and that I had been “observing” her games for quite awhile.

Bottom line, get rid of them, for good!

It is not possible to have any kind of genuine relationship with game players and dishonest people.

I put them in a big slingshot and hurl them into the sun.

@Coloma, “It is not possible to have any kind of genuine relationship with game players and dishonest people.” Wow, did you ever nail down a good succinct statement. Really, I find that is classic. Gotta go write that down in about 10 places where I see it often.

My 2nd line (my boss’s boss) told me the reason I wasn’t getting to move to a different work group. He lied to my face with an incredibly stupid lie. I looked at him, and said calmly “Louis, I know you are smart enough not to believe that, and it insults me that you think I am stupid enough to believe it.” He then repeated the same reason, and I said it again. 2 months later, with union involvement, I got to move to where I wanted.
So, the way I handled it didn’t work right away, but he knew I was on to him.

@Coloma @Lightlyseared Isn’t it THE LINE that all liars quote? It won’t serve as evidence in court but can’t we all easily deduce that the person is using denial & acting dumb as a defensive weapon and straight out lying? I mean why not just say that to their face? Its so common in CSI shows and some other TV shows where people have used that line…and its so obvious..it literally says “I am guilty” in not those words.

You react by saying, Oh yeah? And then show them the video.

I very firmly say ’ do not insult my intelligence. the least you can do now is not bullshit me and dig yourself further into the ground. ’

Take away their X-Box and on-line privileges and kids sprout Angel wings.

Usually this happens with Tenants. I keep a log of all phone calls, and discussions in a handwritten notebook.
I recite back nearly verbatim what they said, and the time & date they said it on. Often it shocks them to the point that their jaw is hanging open ;)
