Is it a bad sign when your local take away knows what you want and who you are without you telling them?

No I have my regular places they are just trying to be attentive for you and give you the best possible service by remembering what you like and how you like it.

No! I love it! There is a Mexican restaurant that I went to at least once a week for 4 years and always ordered the same thing….a fried burrito but with some extra stuff. It was a special order. Then it happened that I didn’t go back there for five years. I walked in one day, early last year. Same waitress, same everything. I said, “I forgot what it was I used to order….” She said, “I got it! Val’s burrito! Have it right out to you!”
They closed about 6 months ago. : ( :( :(

Yes, it is. Not cooking enough fresh food. Eating alone too much.

I think it depends.
If they know you because you have been a customer for a long time, then that is just fine. If they know you because you order from them 4 days a week, that’s probably not so good.

@marinelife The food in my burrito is as fresh as anything I have at the house. Fresher even. Like, I get lettuce and tomatoes on it….stuff that I don’t usually even have at the house, unless I’m planning some sort of dinner that night, because it doesn’t keep long.
I don’t know where this concept comes from that food at a restaurant isn’t “fresh”. Just because they have it in bulk?

My partner now has the people at the Chinese restaurant a few towns over able to tell who she is on the phone. I think the woman that works there has also come to expect me to pick it up when my partner calls in the order.

But at least she doesn’t know what we want ahead of time. We mix it up.

No, that’s fucking awesome! I wish I had that privilege! It’d save so much time..

Lots of people have their favourite item on the menu. I assume that you go to the takeaway because it’s convenient. Sticking to what you know works just makes it even more convenient, for you and the staff.

Hmm. Might be a bad sign for your pocket.

I remember a line from an essay I read years ago, “My kids thought the guy behind the counter at Burger King was their Dad because they ate dinner with him every night.”

When I was in High School, I frequented a particular bagel place called Not Just Bagels,
and a chex-mex place friends and I affectionately referred to as “Chexico”.
After my freshman year, the Not Just Bagels crew knew I wanted a salt bagel with cream cheese, and Chexico knew I was going to get a pint of white rice with a can of orange soda. Also, on one occasion, “Chexico” had my food already waiting for me when I got there.

Nowadays, the Chinese place near my house knows what I’m going to get, and if I go to pick up an order where my “plain-fried rice” was part of it, they already know I’m there to get that order, even if it wasn’t me on the phone. The same goes for the pizza place near my work, they know when I come in, it’s for an order of garlic-knots.

I personally like it when they know when you’re going to order. I like the feeling of being a “regular”. Although, it may be different for me because, what I get never changes since I don’t like most foods.

A friend and I eat at the neighborhood pub every other week and the waitress knows our beer order. I like it.

Nope just means you eat a lot of takeaway!

No. You are supporting local business! Nothing wrong with that.

We ordered delivery once a week from a local Chinese restaurant (small business) for several years. They got to know us and what we liked. They were very generous with us and always made our dishes extra spicy (just how we liked it) and gave us an extra order of crab rangoon. The delivery woman was very friendly and liked to chat for a moment or two. We usually gave her more than your average tip.

Nope… It means you live in a small town with great people that you might move away from someday and actually miss when you don’t have it anymore. In the city… You have the Soup Nazi! “No soup for you, come back… NEVER!”

Lightlyseared's avatar

@GabrielsLamb yeah but I live in central London.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@Lightlyseared Yeah then, I dunno? Maybe you like the curry a bit too much? I do too… *Smiles.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@GabrielsLamb well i do like curry…

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@Lightlyseared Me too, that’s why I learned how to make it…

Lightlyseared's avatar

@GabrielsLamb oh I know how to make it, I just can’t be bothered when I’m only cooking for me. sniff

Awww… Points for YOU! ♥♥♥ I love curry, especially eating it with your hands… So warm and primal, and yummy! Nothing is better than Tika Masala and warm Naan! THanks for the dinner idea…
