I find so many people that do not know their blood type. Do you think it is important information to know? I am A+ and think I found out when I first registered to give blood with The American Red Cross. They sent me a card with this info on it. Do they still do that? What type are you? Do you know? And if you don’t, does it bother you that you don’t?

Nope. I think it might be B+, but I don’t know. That’s almost a guess.
Yep. I found out when I was pregnant. It is O+.
I carry a card in my wallet with all my medical information on it, including my medications and my blood type.
Yes, since a very young age i know it.
Probably because it is a pretty rare one and I have the same as my father it was told to me.
AB negative.
I’m B positive, but it doesn’t really matter if you know or not.
If you needed blood, or needed to donate blood to a friend or relative, the hospital or clinic would never take your word for it, that could lead to death. They will always test your blood to make sure what kind you have.
A+.
My wife is A-, which was a pain, because she had to get shots when she she had each of the kids.
Yes. Hershey’s chocolate syrup.
@AstroChuck, you’re a psycho~
I did a school lab where we typed our blood. I’m A+. My parents would be so proud…
O Negative. I have slut blood, it’ll go with anybody.
I’m really O+, which means I would be considered “The Universal donor”. Sadly, hepatitis in 1980 has rendered my blood unacceptable to be donated.
O+ I will be able to donate to @SuperMouse if the need ever arises. Keep me on speed dial.
B+
my mom is the rarest type, so it was important for me to know
@chyna- You can give to anyone with a positive blood type.
O negative. Which, I think, is the universal donor. I’ve donated twice, and passed out cold both times. No idea why.
Uh, @AstroChuck : No. you can only give to positive folks. I can give to positive folks and sad, angry folks alike.
Knowing was important in my family also. A woman with Rh negative blood could have trouble in any pregnancy after the first. My blood was typed during my mother’s pregnancy with my brother, 7 years after my birth. I was also Rh negative.
The rhesus factor
I found out when I was pregnant with my first, because they wanted to have blood on hand (I’m a bleeder). I can never remember the actual type, but I’m a universal recipient. Just looked that up… guess I’m AB-positive.
I am A+ also. I know because I’ve received blood transfusions. So, maybe I’ve gotten your blood. Thank you for your donation.
B Positive. How unusual is that?
@tedibear- O negative is the universal donor to negative blood types. We O’s ROCK!
@AstroChuck: My fiancee is O Positive. We were just saying the other night about our bloodtypes that we are like salt & pepper.
Oh, my mom says I’m A+, not B+.
B-, not as rare as rebbel’s AB- but not common.
I have been called several times to donate specifically for people in need.
It’s an honor to be able to help.
I’ve had those RhoGAM shots, not fun.
I believe that negative blood can go to positive people, but not vice-versa, so O- would be able to be given to anyone
Here it is in a nutshell:
O type has no extra stuff. A type has A stuff that is only compatible with A people, B type same with B people. O, being stuffless is compatible with all people.
Rh negative means there is no Rh factor for others to find offensive. Rh positive means that there is stuff that negative people will find offensive. Anyone will create antibodies to combat incompatible stuff. This is a bad thing.
Any questions?
I’m O something or other.
I’m AB+. My blood can seriously mess up 96% of the population. ;)
But not @augustlan. My blood lurves you.
@laureth : You’d kill me in a heartbeat! Now I’m seriously afeared of you!
O+ I have donated 14 gallons and got it memorized I think
A+ That’s what is on my dog tags anyway.
Blood donor here. I know my blood type. Has anyone ever done the diet that goes by your blood type? Eat Right for Your Type.
I’m AB+. I don’t think it’s all that important to know though, for reasons listed by @Kardamom
Can’t hurt to know either, though.
B- here learned what it was when I donated blood…. I tried so many times to get over both my fear of needles and blood over the years. So I thought giving blood was not only a good thing to do but it would help with my fears. I fainted each time I tried and once I even fainted twice giving only one pint (lol)
@bkcunningham I have done the blood type diet and it works like a charm if you can stay on it ; )
I just heard about the book and the diet about a week ago. It has been around for some time according to my friends.
I’m AB+ as well. Since there aren’t so many of us worldwide, I’m suprised to find 4 of us here. I guess it has to do with high intelligence!!:)
A paucity of A -. Is it a rare type? I have never given it much thought after I was no longer interested in getting pregnant.
A+ but considering the amount of crap that has gotten into me and the potential for Mad Cow, probably D-
Yes, it’s B negative.
Interesting question, because most people in America don’t know their blood types. In Japan, most people know theirs, because it’s usually criterion for employment, marriage, socializing, etc. Here’s an interesting article on the subject——
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_types_in_Japanese_culture
@MRSHINYSHOES So over there they can dispense with all the horoscope signs for pick up lines and cut to the chase with blood type. Seems sterile and really clinical.
@woodcutter The Japanese don’t use horoscopes or blood typing for pick up. They just cut to the chase and pick up. They are a very orderly people and do things straightforwardly. Lol.
Seriously though, @SpatzieLover has it right.
I wonder whats the blood type for chuck norris….?
By the way I’m O negative
@Tbag I didn’t know chuck norris had any blood at all. He always looks so stiff and dead on the screen. Lol.
@Tbag chuck norris? More like plastic. He’s so fake. lol
@MRSHINYSHOES shh. He might curse the fluther community and we’ll all be doomed.
@Tbag Ha! Just let him try. I’ll whip his little a**.
HEY, no short people jokes!
@woodcutter I’m taller than he is. The guy’s only 5’ 8”, so he’s a shortie to me! “Shortie, shortie!” lol
Everybody is taller than he is.
Is he 5’8”? He looks shorter in real life
@MRSHINYSHOES is that measurement including the Texas shit kickers on his feet?
@woodcutter Oh my! Too funny. Yes, I believe it is. So can you imagine? He’s probably really 5’7” or even shorter. “Sh*tkickers” usually have at least a one inch heel, right? Lol.
Mine’s blue, now fuckorf & bring me my supper….peasant!!
Whatever the most common type is.
Do I think it is important information to know? Well, yes. Guess what happens when you’re having a baby. My wife is B negative for example. And because I’m 0 negative there was no issue.
@laureth My blood lurves you, too. Blood sisters!
I think it’s important to know that the blood type of Mr. Spock is T-Negative, which is very unlikely, even for a Vulcan. And his father, Sarek, happens to share the same type.
Hey, don’t roll your eyes! This knowledge is good stuff!
I just think it’s cool that you know that.
I’m stuffless and positive. O+
They didn’t bother testing me at the hospital. I guess they figured giving me the o+ blood wouldn’t hurt if I were actually an A.
And props to @AstroChuck for knowing Spock’s type.
@SpatzieLover Wow, I didn’t know that! Thanks for the informataion.
Yep; O+.
I can give to anybody who is Rh-positive, but I can only get Type-O. Thankfully, Type-O is common…
RH factor O-
A universal donor here and maybe an alien as well. lol
