Why do most women hate beards?

I love beards. I’ve been waiting for mine to come out since forever! I guess I’m one of those slow beard growers! Nevertheless, why is that women aren’t atracted to guys with beards? Maybe not all of them but the majority! To be honest, I wouldn’t shave off my beard just because a woman tells me it ain’t nice on me or whatever.
I’m talking about a normal beard here – beard. Just wondering why?

I don’t like it scratching on my face. >:(
And it looks gross.
I wear a goatee, have for the past 13 years.
I have a ‘weak’ chin, so the goatee helps balance out my face. I look much, much better with it. I wouldn’t shave it off for any reason. If a girl told me to get rid of it I’d tell her not to let the door hit her on the ass on the way out.
I would love to hear though what the women of Fluther think of facial hair. I’d also like to have the men chime in with their experiences on ‘beard acceptance’.
@AshLeigh Come on it ain’t that bad!
@FutureMemory ” . If a girl told me to get rid of it I’d tell her not to let the door hit her on the ass on the way out. ” I need to quote this… I would tell her the same thing!
@Tbag yes it is! D:
I’m okay if it’s not a full beard, and it’s cut all cool though. :D
You simply can’t kiss a man with a bread for hours. It chafes a woman’s soft face.
I like beards. I hate moustaches. I do agree, however, that facial hair irritates my face. Among other things.
@FutureMemory you do not have a weak chin, get out of here.
I prefer guys without the beard. But it really grosses me out when a guy doesn’t take care of his beard and it ends up looking like facial pubes.
I really, really dislike beards. Have one if you like, but I don’t find them attractive. It is just a preference. I think modern culture is biased towards men with relatively little facial hair.
My wife prefers me to be clean shaven and smooth. She says she loves to feel the skin on my face with her fingers when she strokes it. I’m not arguing. lol
I’d guess that it might irritate their skin.
I like facial hair (well-groomed, of course).
I’ve often wondered this, for I’ve always liked beards and shaving is such a nuisance. If they’re well maintained, that is. I think the ironic beard is silly, but the subtle beards that guys like Jude Law and Hugh Jackman wear look cool. I noticed a few have mentioned how it chafes their face, which is a wholly legitimate answer, but stylistically, I’m curious as to what it is against them.
@ANef_is_Enuf There’s a reason not many pics exist of me without the goat. But thank you, as usual you’re very kind.
I have no idea. I like them a lot when they’re kept neatly trimmed. My husband lost his during chemotherapy. I was very glad when it grew back.
I like guys with beards, 5 o’clock shadows…etc. But, going in for a kiss with bearded guys really does tend to irritate the skin. You can actually feel the little hairs piercing your face sometimes!
Grow your goddamn beard. I got one. My girlfriend and soon to be wife loves it, oh and fellas, yes, she’s hot. She said that she loves im myself and up to par with no ones standards. Fear the beard. With that being said. Clean the beard. The only time it is ever itchy for me is if I clean shave, and I’m in the one month period for some reason, the hairs can crash into the skin. You know this is interesting, I once thought, why do I keep shaving? It keeps growing back and it hurts my skin, and it’s leaving with cuts hear and there, so I thought wow, this is bullshit. Striving for something that I’m not. I’m not knacking on the guys who do have baby faces, thats alright (the steve buscemi’s of the world). But to strive for what is essentially trying to go for a feminine look. I have gay friends who grow out the facials it can be fashionably done too. Scientifically, beards are dominant trait, which most likely served for repelling against insects near the neck and face. Also, we don’t need to know now, but back in the hey day, it was a sign of the alpha male. Slowly it evolved into those who were wise. The evolution of the beard has dipped in our current society. But its 2011 and I’m riding it full on baby. Check out the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in The World. Foreign woman love beards, its that “clubbing” crowd who don’t bode well with beards for some reason. Check out Patrick Petitjean. He is my friend model. Oh and also, fellas, if you want to separate the girls from the ladies, yeah the beard does that too. Let’s go beards!
Because no woman wants to look like Kenny Rogers in a dress!
To tell you the truth, I think every man looks good with facial hair. Whether it’s a mustache, a goatee, a full grown mountain man beard or even a little stubble, I think all men look good with some kind of facial hair. However, I prefer my man to be clean shaven because, as @ANef_is_Enuf pointed out, facial hair causes rug burn in the worst places. The only facial hair that I think could potentially not cause rug burn is a well-tended chinstrap, and I love the look of a well-tended chinstrap.
Edit to add: A soul patch is the exception. I’m sorry guys, but a soul patch just looks like you threw up and some of it dribbled down your chin.
I decided to grow a full beard three years ago, mainly to hide some facial & neck scars I’ve had for years …. At first It got bad press from everyone?? :-/
At the end of the day I grew it for me, I think I suit it & I’m not really bothered what people think, younger narrow minded women ( 20 – 25 )can be quite immature about it I find but I have had plenty of positive comments from older more worldly women ( 35 – 45 ) more my own age group, so I’m really quite pleased I grew it, besides it’s something else they like to twiddle between the fingers so it evens itself out, leaning on the plus side me thinks.. I don’t see the big deal anyway, it’s no worse than a woman with hairy legs or top lip for that matter :-/ give us beardies a break……..
My husband has a beard and I love it, except it does tickle or prickle me. But I can’t imagine him without it. Before him though, I never liked them at all.
It’s the scruffing on the insides of the thighs amongst other places. Think about it guy.

Why do most men make inaccurate generalizations?
I think beards are sexy. I love that rugged outdoor look on guys. My husband has had a beard for several years now. It’s hot
@Adirondackwannabe It’s not painful if the beard/goatee is kept trimmed and conditioned. I hate it when my husband shaves his goatee off.
@Adirondackwannabe Yeah, I’m sure it sounds a little ridiculous to some people, but when a goatee or beard is grown out a little longer, using a bit of hair conditioner on it is fabulous to keep it softer.
I have to say I am not a fan of the shaved head with a big beard look. I always think they have their head on upside down!
I think it depends on the individual man. My dad grew a beard when he retired and I really liked it. He looked like Santa Claus! My husband looks good with about 5 days of scruffiness on him, but I think I would miss his face if he grew a beard. My ex looked ridiculous when he tried to grow a beard. And I think goatees make guys look like a ventriloquist’s dummy – something just looks disjointed about it. Soul patches and chin beards look like mistakes.
The only beard I truly hate is the one that is catching snacks for later consumption and the “soul patch” (which is not a beard but a piece of something left behind on a mans face that looks absolutely ridiculous to me). Beards can be extremely sexy and handsome on a lot of men. As to rather a woman is attracted to a man with one comes down to personal preference. I myself prefer a clean shaven, taller then myself man with “tequila” (ask Dutchess III) specs ; )
They aren’t?
I once dated a girl who became incredibly angry with me when I shaved my beard.
I’ve had other girls approach me when I had it who otherwise wouldn’t approach me clean shaven.
I guess your mileage may vary.
Yeah not all don’t like beards, But on my opinion I guess because Girls they won’t feel good when his partner kissing them. And it not looks neat.
Ever try rubbing your freshly shaven face on the sidewalk?
And besides, I don’t want to be intimate with whatever you had for lunch.
I used to have a boyfriend whose beard smelled bad (he didn’t wash it)? I dumped him for other reasons, but I did not enjoy kissing him.
What’s with guys having poor hygiene? Giving the rest of us bearded gents a bad name…
