Help with these symptoms?

Asked by mrmijunte (1159points) September 19th, 2011

Hi fellas! Ok, I’m feeling like puppy poop. I’ve got runny nose ( About every 3 minutes need to clear it ), tummy aches, diarrhea, haven’t puked but feel like it, bit of sweats, coughing ( phlegm ), and terrible grammar and vocabulary.
No headache though. The cold like symptoms about two days now, the other ones started today. Can anyone help me figure out what this is? Is it a flu? Thnx in advance.

The only way to know for sure if it’s the flu is to get to the doctor and get tested. There have already been reported cases of the flu in my area, so it’s definitely possibly since this flu season is on it’s way.

Have you had a fever as well? Have you been around anyone else that’s been sick lately?

@Seaofclouds I haven’t been around people that looked sick, I am in Chihuahua City right now and I really don’t know if it is flu season here as well. Would it be unwise to self-medicate antiflu medicine?

Flu season generally starts with the colder weather (so this time of year for the northern hemisphere). It’s not a good idea to self-medicate with anti-flu medicine if you aren’t sure that you have the flu. You can treat the individual symptoms you are having if you feel like you need to, but it’s really best to see a doctor first so you can be sure of what’s going on. People can carry illnesses around with them without looking sick, so that alone doesn’t necessarily mean you haven’t been exposed to an illness.

Thank you for the advice, tomorrow I will surely pay a visit to a Dr.

Have you taken your temperature? Fever is more likely to mean flu rather than GI upset, otherwise known as intestional flu.

Unless you are running a high fever and cannot keep hydrated, I would give it a few more days before seeing a doctor.

Rest, keep warm, drink quarts of fluid, and suck on a cough drop or some hard candy for the cough.

Visit your doctor. If it isn’t the flu, it may be food poisoning. Didn’t they just have a big recall on mellons?

Awwww, I so sorry. When this happens to me, I sleep for hours on end, and keep a bottle of water next to my bed to sip from whenever I wake up.

That combination of symptoms means: Get it checked by a Dr.
Sounds like it could be the flu, but so many other things start like this.

@WestRiverrat A recall on mellons? I love mellons! Why would they recall mellons?

Flu rarely has runny nose or very sick tummy. Although it might be a virus of some sort. Is your muscous green when you blow your nose? If green I say you need an antibiotic. You say sweats, does that mean you have a fever? Keep your fever down and give it 4 or 5 days, see if you start to feel better. Flu starts to feel better within 5 days. Unless you suddenly take a turn for the worse, then of course go to the doctor or emergency.

I think it is possible it is a bacterial infection, and your tummy is sick from the phlegm going to your tummy. Try sleep with a lot of pillows, almost sitting up.

To make yourself feel better cough medicine, buy DM. Do not buy cough medicines that also have medicine for stuffy head and fever. You should always take all drugs separately. For the congestion you can get a decongestant/antihistimine (the only combination thatis acceptible in my book) and for fever and discomfort ibuprofen is magical.

Edit: I just thought to ask if you are able to get out of bed, or if you are completely exhausted, impossible to function. That would be the flu. If you just feel like shit, but can still get up and work, no way you have the flu. More likely a sinus and lung bacterial infection.

You can either see your doctor and be done with this flu in about seven days, or you can self-medicate and be done with it in about a week.

@CaptainHarley That rule is for colds.

Try out the Symptom Checker, if you aren’t going to track down a doctor.

Thnx for all the answers, I just got up from bed, feeling a bit better, don’t have fever, my tummy isn’t achy anymore, I still have diarrhea though, and a runny nose. Phlegm is white. Being drinking tons of water, but I have a feeling it will pass soon ( just a hunch ).

@blueiiznh there was a listeria outbreak traced to bad cantaloupe.
