What are your thoughts on the new FaceBook?

Asked by dreamwolf (3163points) September 21st, 2011

There tons of changes going on with FaceBook like the new “subscribe” button instead of like, and the “where to add your friend request” I feel its all too radical for the basic frame work that is FaceBook. I think they are trying to eliminate expansion of Google +.

I kinda like it. It would be boring if it was all the same since ever! Change is good right?! You got that right about trying to eliminate the expansion of Google +.

I think it is rather confusing! I liked it much, much better back when I first joined, in 2009. It was so much easier then it is now.

I guess I don’t visit FB often enough to notice. I’ve hard a lot of complaints but nothing looks that different to me except the top bar is cleaner so I don’t have to toggle from “home” to “latest” in the news feed, so that’s ok with me. I haven’t seen the sidebar everyone’s bitching about. Either it hasn’t gone into effect on my account yet or my adblock extension blocks it.

I just went to the games page and I HATE the scroll that says what everyone is playing. Way to rat on us when we’re supposed to be working, Facebook!

I’d like to share what Xzibit has to say.

I wasn’t use to the “old Facebook”, so I doubt I would be too thrown by the changes.

dreamwolf's avatar

@Jellie LOL that is awesome, I was thinking what the hell is stock exchange type of thing showing what everyone is typing at the same time live or whatever.

I seriously hate it. It’s way too much visual clutter, cuts some things I want from my newsfeed and gives me all sorts of shit I don’t want in that little ‘ticker’ thing off to the right. I don’t know why they feel the need to make such drastic changes, when some little tweaks would have been a vast improvement.

augustlan's avatar

That said, I also feel a little like this.

I am such a Facebook novice that like @Blueroses, the changes haven’t impacted on my at all. I really don’t use it to any great level and have no desire to increase my use of Facebook. I really only use it to connect with some lovely jellies away from Fluther. End of story.

If you use Chrome, there’s a free extension here that handles a lot of that clutter.

Hooray for chrome!

Zzzzzzzzz….....

I don’t see the big difference.
I’m on it about 3 minutes a day, and the changes aren’t really effecting me.

I think the feed should be in the order in which people post things, period. Simple and clean, like Fluther.

jrpowell's avatar

I don’t use Facebook but if anyone wants to post a screenshot I would like to see what changes everyone will forget about in a week.

harple's avatar

@johnpowell I think it’s going to take more than a week to get our heads around these ones, but I take your point that we’ll probably get used them as with all the others.

jrpowell's avatar

@harple :: It is pretty hard to find a group of programmers/designers that will say “Fire me, I think this is good enough.”

I even have the problem on personal stuff. I tend to try and fix what isn’t broken just so it feels like I am doing something. Usually I fuck it up and people complain and I revert back to how it was.

erichw1504's avatar

The only thing I don’t like is the “news ticker”. Here’s how to hide it.

dappled_leaves's avatar

The “subscribe” button is good – previously, Facebook assumed that users wanted only a limited amount of information in their newsfeed from all friends. Now, you can choose to have all information from specific friends. That is an improvement.

The ticker is annoying, and I hope they deal with that.

AshLeigh's avatar

I don’t care. I don’t think it’s even that much different. But everyone’s freaking out about it. XD

downtide's avatar

I wouldn’t have noticed anything different if I didn’t see people complaining about it.

Facebook is new? I could have sworn it’s been around since the dark ages, already. I think it’s almost as old as the Catholic church, in internet years.
