I really want to get a pet. I think I’m getting broody so I need something to look after. I’d love to get a rabbit, as I have a garden, and I have a garage where I could put the hutch, but, I’m a student living away from home, and I don’t know what I would do with the rabbit during the holidays, or for the summer because I’m going abroad:( Any ideas?

You could take it with you. Get a really small one like a mini lop.
wait till you get back, I went to England, and they wanted my cocker to spend 6 months in quarantine to go, and another 6 months to come back
Well if you have someone who is willing to take care of your pet, then I would go with a bird (although I hate the idea of a creature that is meant to fly, being trapped in a small cage).
More people are willing to care for a bird than a cat or a dog or even a rabbit. Rabbits smell a lot and the cage has to be changed frequently, so many may not want to keep it for you.
Ah, get a turtle. No noise and they take up very little room, and they won’t miss you while your gone unless someone forgets to feed it.
Rabbits make dull pets imho. They just sit there and munch on stuff in their cage. Maybe I just don’t know enough about rabbits. I’m happy with the beagle I’ve got. She has a personality!
Mice are surprisingly fun pets. They are easy and they just die. I have never needed to take a mouse to the vet.
Get a fish! Clean, colorful, undemanding, and not expensive to keep or maintain. Some fish are quite intelligent——oscars, siamese fighting fish, etc. to name a few.
My young children keep a tank. They love it.
@DrBill that’s because England doesn’t have rabies. If you’re transporting a dog from the US to a place that has rabies, even if it’s only a couple cases in the past few years (like Finland), you don’t have to quarantine your dog. At least I didn’t have to.
@lemming If it’s possible, I would probably get a small dog that can be taken onto the passenger compartment of an airplane. That is, IF you aren’t going somewhere where the dog will need to be quarantined, and IF you don’t live somewhere where the dog will have to be quarantined when you get back. Also, I would not buy from a petshop, but would get the dog from a good, reliable breeder or an animal shelter. You don’t want to support a place like this. When looking for the right place to buy the dog from (if you decide on buying), here are some signs something is amiss. A good, responsible breeder will want you to come to their place so they can match you up with the right dog. They will find the perfect companion.
Perhaps start with some fish? You can probably take fish with you. Even just one. Or what about terrapins or something like that?
If you decide on a dog or cat, please go to your local shelter to find him/her. I also suggest waiting until you get back from wherever you’re going to get your pet. I don’t know what your life will be like when you get back, so it would be a good idea for you to choose an animal that will fit your lifestyle. Dogs need to be walked, dogs and cats need some play time, cats have litterboxes to be cleaned, fishtanks need to be maintained, etc. Think about what you will have time to do.
@johnpowell then come take the ones from my house. I don’t know how to get rid of them because I use traps and catch one every 2 weeks. They don’t enter the apartment to much yet they are annoying when they come. Help me [I’ll pay ^^ ]
@lemming it all depends on how much time you’ll spend away from the pet. Some pets will forget you if you are away too much.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Still haven’t decided. I’m going to look into bringing animals to France etc.
