Know of a great alarm clock?

Asked by figbash (7483points) June 21st, 2007

I've been sleeping through my clock radio/alarm every morning, and it's gotta stop. Setting it on the other side of the room doesn't help, since I just get up, turn it off and go back to bed. I've tried the Bose, but was underwhelmed for the cost. Can anyone suggest an effective, non-annoying alarm clock that they love?

If it's not annoying it sounds like its not going to get you up. I use my cell phone alarm personally...but I guess you need something with a combination or something that would prevent you from easily turning it off. I don;t know what to tell ya except maybe try going to bed earlier lol.

honestly, i've found that the best way to wake up is with an ipod connected to a cheap set of computer speakers turned up all the way... :) :) then use the alarm on the ipod.

have you tried adjusting your work schedule to your sleep schedule? that may be the cheapest and most effective strategy.

a lot of truly great people (like yourself) have had trouble waking up and have devised hideous methods to rouse themselves. Abraham Lincoln set his bed on four sticks of wood; a primitive gear-crank pulley system yanked the sticks out from underneath the bed when it was time to get up. (personally, i wonder if i wouldn't grow used to that.)

they recently passed a business designation in europe for companies who recognize advanced sleep cycles and late sleep cycles--they allow people to work when it makes most sense for their circadian rhythms. pretty progressive and totally win-win. if it's possible, it might be worth trying out for a month to see what happens.

that, of course, would by far be the best solution i've heard in some time. :)

I think I'm going to try the Sight, Sound and Scent alarm clock from Hammacher Schlemmer - just to see if that does it. I wonder if they make bacon-scented aromatherapy balls for it?

I also may try the watch that wakes you up based on where you are in your sleep cycle. It doesn't get amazing reviews but I'd be willing to try anything. I wish my job would let me be flexible with hours, but unfortunately, I work in an intense environment where there's not a lot of room for shifting around. In the meantime, anyone still intrigued by alarm clocks should check out this link:

This is the best one I've seen. I've got to get it (as soon as they come out with the "madame" version of course).
Any alarm clock I've tried just succeeds in making me furious in the morning (especially if I try the old put it out of reach trick). You've got to check out their site.
