You could be a bounty hunter.
You’ve got to have a professional degree in a field where jobs are available. Minimum wage earners living in Hawaii work at least two full time jobs to be able to survive, or they share an apartment with alot of people! A person can survive in Hawaii living at a low-cost hostel, sharing a room with strangers. The healthcare field is good as any kind of specialized tech, such as respiratory or X ray, or as a nurse.
Good carpenters can earn a very good living there too. A friend of mine is making over twice what his wife makes, and she is a RN. You need lots of experience and tools though.
