What do you think so far?
Will it have legs, do you think?
Right now it looks pretty much like a giant video game :) but the characters seem pretty involving.
But I must say that the commanding officer on the other side does have a real kick-ass-looking Dino Desk.
I want one of those :)

Yup. So far, I don’t like it.
It’s not on yet. Is it worth my time?
I don’t think so. It’s kind of like Lost vs. Jurassic Park vs. crappy apocalyptic movies. Booooring.
I think it’s more like Bonanza meets Jurassic Park with stage sets similar to Avatar and some time travel movies.
I’ll give it a fair shot for a few weeks but if something better comes up in this time slot it wouldn’t be at the top of my list.
But you’ve gotta check out the Dino Desk :)
However, if that’s the most original thing for the next two hours, that’s not really saying much, is it now?
Well, if it’s going to be week after week of night time shootouts with Dinosaurs, I’ll be done with it pretty soon :)
Oops! Damn, I wish I was! I completely forgot about it. Hopefully I can catch it online or on Comcast on demand, but thanks for reminding me!
I think it had some substance to it, I think I’ll give it another shot come next week. Jason O’Mara is my dude.
I just looked on the upcoming schedule and they’re doing a rerun of it on Sat. 8PM. EST.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Dino Desk.
If the series doesn’t last maybe they’ll sell it at auction. Me want :)
@Buttonstc If it’s a science fiction series I really like it, other than some Star Trek incarnation, it won’t last. Proof: John Carpenter’s Dark Angel, two seasons; Firefly, one season. Oh, well.
I just looked it up on wikipedia.
The premise is ridiculous. They are sending people en masse (the refuse, no less) into the past to establish colonies? Yeah, no way that could screw up the time line.
Like for example the genocidal reckless nature of humans could cause them to drive the ancestors of mammals into extinction, dooming the human species to never exist in the first place.
Or Humans, surviving for millions of years, actually fend off the asteroid that is supposed to wipe out the dinosaurs. Result being the present full of dangerous huge dinosaurs.
Their presence could also force evolution of competing dinosaurs, like the famous raptors, into the direction of increased intelligence, and eventually technology. Being naturally stronger and more dangerous than humans, the dinos would eventually become the dominant species on the planet.
It also does not solve the problem of over population or the polluted environment, it just sidesteps it, and at incalculable risks. Instead of wasting resources on a time machine, why not create clean technology, or space travel?
@ragingloli Wow! I just checked out the wikipedia article on Terra Nova(TV_series) (this is another one of those dams wikipedia links that don’t work because of the underscores and parentheses or whatever it is)
…but someone has way, way too much time on his or her hands. 41!!! references/footnotes for a T.V show that just premiered tonight? That’s nuts. I’ve seen entries on wikipedia on important topics of substance that don’t even come close to having that many supporting references. Shaking my head on this one…
@ragingloli
I never said it made sense, did I ?? I only mentioned the cool desk, ha ha.
Your points are well made and I’m thinking it may not last too long.
BTW. Did you happen to catch “Falling Skies”? I’d be interested in your take on it if you’ve seen it.
@lilly
Maybe they have a better marketing Dept. than they do script writers ?
:D
I agree with you. I absolutely loved Firefly. Fox was an idiot to cancel it.
I also liked Dark Angel (except for the wooden Jessica Alba. Her one and only emotion was “pouty”) But that series put her on the map, careerwise.
But the other characters were really great. Tony prior to NCIS. imagine that. And the Goth looking chick was cool. And Jensen Ackles was the cutest thing on two feet. He was only due to be on one season but he did such a good job they brought him back as his clone.
I’ve just realized both those series were on Fox. So is TerraNova. Uh oh…
Sorry, I really didn’t explain that well. I meant EMOTIONALLY wooden.
Yeah, she was really kick-ass in action sequences, for sure. But she was a cipher as far as her emotions. But a hot bod and athletic ability can carry an actress far in Hollywood, obviously. But a good actress she ain’t :)
Let’s put it this way: if I were a director bringing an important novel to the screen requiring an actress of dynamic range, she wouldn’t be on the list at all. But, if I had an action movie needing a woman upon whom all male eyes would be glued, she would be on the short list.
Just for comparison sake, both she and Ackle’s characters were products of the same bio-mechanical process and early childhood influences. To try to explain her in terms of being created a “soldier” and sort of an automoton as an excuse for her affect doesn’t really do the trick.
He came out of the same “tank” so to speak. He’s a good actor who can create a multidimensional character with nuances of menace, humor, etc. She isn’t. But she’s good at kicking ass.
I think the Goth chick would have been much better in the lead because even tho I don’t know her name, I still remember her character vividly after all these years.
The only reason I remember Alba is because she was the lead and her subsequent fame. Had she been a supporting character, she wouldn’t be memorable to me in any way. Aside from the physical stuff and a hot bod, she was a zero (emotionally speaking).
There were a LOT of good supporting actors in that series. And it had a really good and compelling storyline.
@Buttonstc O.K.
I’ve actually never seen any of Jessica Alba’s movies! To me she will always be Max so I really don’t have an opinion of her as an actress. I just liked her in Dark Angel. And you’re absolutely right, there was a great supporting cast. I loved them all, even Normal. Great characters. I still miss them today, long after the series has been over, for years. I guess maybe I always thought of Max as the “mother” or maybe the strong post around which or to, the other characters anchored themselves. She had to be tough and strong and unemotional because the others depended on her, for their own reasons. Max didn’t have the luxury of being emotional. You look at when Zack shot himself to save Max’s life, that’s how much she meant to him.
You can see I maybe took this show way to seriously but I just loved it, for a lot of reasons.
And yes, I also think that Jensen Ackles was maybe the cutest thing on two feet. :-) But I still have never watched Supernatural. That’s the show he’s on now, right? So much T.V., so little time. I don’t watch nearly as much television as I used to. But if something really catches me, I can become rather obsessed with it.
Strangely enough i’ve never gotten invested in Supernatural either. Maybe when I’m old and gray sitting in my rocker, I’ll stream it on Netflix and catch up on the whole series.
I’ve done that in the past with other series and sometimes they’re more enjoyable watching a new episode every day rather than with a week or more in between.
For the most part, that’s how I watched Babylon 5 and I’m glad I did. I want to get the whole 5 yrs on DVD one day. That was the BEST Sci-Fi series IMHO.
It’s okay, but I’m desperate for something interesting to watch.
@tiny
Ha ha. Yeah I know what you mean. Decent Sci Fi is hard to come by these days and Falling Skies is a whole year away :(
Hey, I just found a new name for fluther that’s more appropriate – TERRA GRAMMA!!
(Well, darn it, I thought it was funny! Oh, well.)
