Radiator under an LCD screen - not a good idea?

Asked by zensky (13418points) September 26th, 2011

I have a radiator on wheels that would fit nicely directly beneath my flat screen. I am worried because of the heat. Right?

Meh…maybe not. If it is radiating out instead of up…no big deal.

Check it out, turn it on in that spot and wait an hour and then test for how warm the LCD screen seems.

I wouldn’t risk it.

It’s probably not a good idea. Heat rises, even if the radiator element point out the front. The case of the television has vents intended to draw air, through convection, up through the chassis. There is no good reason to induce heated air into the system, it shortens the live of the integrated circuitry.

Personally, I’d move the heater closer to the chair from which I’m watching the television.
