Old game about underground dwarves?

Asked by Moonya (206points) September 28th, 2011

I had this very old (from the 90’s) puzzle/strategy game about some dwarves that moved underground because of some disaster. And it was up to you to build their community under the ground by planting food, build houses, make storages and stuff like that, and to dig trough the underground to make more space and to get these puzzles. You needed to solve this puzzles to get a piece of an altar or something like that, and if you had completed the altar (after about a 100 puzzles) your dwarves where able to go back to the surface. Unfortunatly I lost that game, and I can’t recall the name of that game. It is NOT brave dwarves, dwarve fortress, diggles or dwarfs!?. Who knows the name of the game that I mean?

Any chance it wasn’t dwarfs, but rather lemmings?

nope, no lemmings. In lemmings you do not need to plant food and stuff. You just need to get them from a to b. In the game I mean you can delegate your dwarves how you want to.

It is definitely Dwarf Fortress.

nope, in dwarf fortress you can choose between dwarves elves and orcs(?) and it looks totally different than the game I mean.

What did the game look like? Was it top down, a sidescroller, or maybe the ¾ths view (isometric)?

That I can describe. When you started the game you saw everything from the side (like a platform game). You had this big screen of soil and a gap in the middle where there was a storage and a few dwarves. And the it was up to you build a house for more dwarves, plant some trees for wood and some corn for food and to start digging. The digging went in nice straight lines until you came to another gap, where you could build more stuff. And every once in a while you encountered doors which you needed to enter for a puzzle. Sometimes 1 dwarf was enough to solve it, sometimes you needed more.

Did you ever figure out the name of the dwarf game? I think it is the one I am searching for as well but the closest I have got to it is this forum. I would love to know.

no sorry, I am still in search. They all think it is dwarf fortres, but it is a totally other game

I remember this game. There were two wizards who destroyed their civilisation. I really want to know the name as well. I thought it had something to do with ‘cave’ but I’m not exactly sure. I hope someone knows the answer.

i’m also looking for this game ( i think). You could build houses and bridges and it had a great style. It looked something like lemmings. i loved digging around, solving puzzels and creating new buildings. i believed later in the game you would get more buildings like a brewery and cafe’s which required wood made in to planks by the mill. Did anyone find this game yet, i can’t remember the name and i can’t find it anywhere.

Still looking for this game. It is not wiggles/diggles. The game I want I played around 1998 and was 2D. It is almost like it never existed, so hard it is to find what it is.

I’m looking for the same game. Me and a friend of mine use to call it ‘cavemen’ but that gives no hits on Google. :( i wish some of the designers would see this and respond. I don’t know where you are from but i’m from the Netherlands. Maybe it’s a Dutch game?

I am from belgium, so it is the same region. But I don’t remember the game being dutch or english
