What seemingly small choice did you make that led to larger things?

Asked by smilingheart1 (6439points) September 28th, 2011

Many times we make small, innocent decisions which grow positively forward into large things we never dreamed of at the time.

Here I am thinking of things like “Blame it on the Bossa Nova” (old song about how a relationship developed from a dance.)

For me one was spotting a newspaper ad for a piece of land and after the purchase, other family and friends buying land in that area and whole new sub community of folks already known being formed in another social context.

I prefer begin the Beguine… But it never led to anything good. BELIEVE THAT!

I should have listened to the bossa Nova?

I went overseas to take a cooking class as a lark. I met my wife there, started a family, took a new career, learned a new language,and lived there for seven years. The trajectory of my life veered so radically that the pre-choice life seems entirely unreal, like something I dreamed.

I forgot to add a debit charge into my checkbook, which caused an overdraft.

My $12 purchase then became a $42 dollar purchase with the $30 overdraft fee.

That was a lesson I will never repeat again.

Hitchhiking to get out of a town in England. This road or that road. Some guys pick up my friend and I. Almost 38 years of marriage to one of those guys.

One day I decided to take a real estate class because I thought I may want to get my license and become an agent. This decision led to me purchasing my first home.

Going back to school and switching majors from business to education. Turns out the love of my life was waiting for me in my first education class.

@janbb that made me smile!

I can trace both my marriage and my career to a seemingly minor and inconsequential decision to help a little group get started and put out a newsletter.

Interesting how many even of these few responses point to the value of trying something new and being open to possibilities.
