Canon Powershot SX1is + Starblitz 250-BAZ = ?

I’ve got this Starblitz 250-BAZ flash from my dad, he didnt use it and gave it to me, but Im unsure of what voltage triggers it to see if i can use it with my Canon Powershot SX1is. Ive read that a excessive strobe voltage may seriously fry the camera. I checked the manual and there’s no info about voltages, and dont really know how to measure it. Can anybody guide me? thanks
